Default VF28 on a EJ22T

hey guys, i got a ej22t in my MY93 Legacy turbo wagon. i just got a killer deal on a BB VF28. my question is could I run this turbo on my stock ecu and injectors, and maf without issues? i plan to run stock boost, which i believe is 10 psi, on the stock boost controller, so I stay away from fuel cut. but if i stay at 10 psi, will i be ok?

my other mods include a 3" bellmouth dp, and 3" catless straightpipe, and a 06 WRX TMIC...

thanks

I would get some sort of EM, anything is better than nothing, as long as it actually does something. I can't remember the size difference between the VF28 and the VF11 stocker. The biggest question is, do you plan on raising the "bar" later on. If you more than likely will, you should get your foot in the door, so to speak, on engine management and learning how to use it.

Odds are, the VF28 is going to max your maf, injectors, and not be as you want it to be without EM.

a vf11 is microscopic compared to a vf28.
sell the vf28 and save up for an ej20g swap.

why upgrade the turbo if you are going to stay at 10psi? the VF28 will be no better than a TD04 at 10psi... just keep your stock turbo...

the short answer is no. the long answer is not without a custom engine management system tuned specifically for your setup.

also, even if you were to do this, you'd need some other parts too because the vf28 is a front entry turbo so youd need an elbow to bring it up to your intake pipe

Well I got the vf28 for around 200 bucks, so I don't feel bad. As for why, my vf11 is about done for, so i needed something else. This turbo also happened to have a 90* elbow welded on the inlet so that worked out, due to the fact that someone used it on a ej20g... Yes I kinda figured it would max out the injectors and maf, that's why I asked. I plan to use a tuned ej20g ecu, upgraded JECS maf and 565cc injectors eventually but I wanted to know if I could run it for the time being...

money was the problem here. engine management is an eventual goal, but i dont have the funds to do it all at once. i needed a new turbo, the vf11 was on its last leg. someone had a 90* inletted VF28 so i jumped on it... ive been assured that it will be fine on stock boost levels (8-9psi) it will be fine. ive been talking to legacy guys, and have learned a thing or two. it will be close to maxing out the stock injectors and maf, but people have ran and datalogged td05-16g with no probs at 8-9 psi. anything above that, say 11-13, ill be approaching fuel cut. theres a guy here in WA that produces non tunable ej20g ecu's that work with 22ts with a ignition signal converter. you send him a list of mods and he burns a eprom and chips the ecu. ill probably go that route as i dont have the money for a standalone nor a full swap at this time... gotta work with what you got and have fun with it... im not looking for anything crazy... with the ecu, tmic, vf28, 3'' turbo back, and sti yellow tops i can make 220-240 whp easily. plenty fun for a street car...
