Default need opinions on custom accessport tune

ok heres the deal bought a car today from someone on here its an 03 wrx with a vf39 setup intake, injectors, catless turboback sti tmic anyways the previous owner had it tuned by jorge at p&l like 4 years ago and hasnt done a thing since when i pulled the learning view the IAM was at 1 there were some spots where timing was pulled in lower load ranges/rpms but nothing ridiculous i was confused immediately trying to figure out what was up i never saw a IAM that low even on cars with a bunch of mods and no tune so i reset the ecu and basically have driven it a good 6 hrs total today doing every kind of driving imaginable full 1-5 gear pulls etc and pulled the learning view and nothing what so ever for timing was pulled and IAM is at 16 so my question is what was up there? did it just randomly at one time have a bad knock event? the car feels fine sounds normal pulls hard nothing out of the ordinary not overboosting nothin so just wondering if anyone has any ideas? i got spare engines laying aside if it comes to that im going to do a compression/leakdown but im almost sure it will be fine so any input would be great just wanna know what possible causes could be

The DAM/IAM dropping to 1 is not something that would occur on a vehicle without issues. It indicates either severe knock has occurred at some point or the knock sensor is picking up something rattling in the engine bay (i.e. false knock - say a loose heatshield or the like). What were each of the A/F Learning 1 values in Learning View before you reset the ECU?

Unfortunately, you are dealing with a lot of unknowns here - any which (or a combination) could be the problem:
1. Unknown maintenance state from previous owner - you need to go through the big items -> fuel filter, plugs, etc.

2. 10-year old car that can have issues with aging MAF and front o2 sensors, intake tract leaks, etc. A lot of these issues can be indirectly inferred by looking at your long-term fuel trims (A/F Learning 1), but, after a reset, you will need a good amount of driving (at a least a week) before they re-populate accurately.

3. Possible internal engine damage - get a compression/leak-down test done. This should be done on any used car first, especially one that has an unknown history and has mods beyond stage 2.

Once you have the above sorted out (and any problems fixed), you should get a good 3rd gear data wide open throttle (WOT) log from about 2000 RPM on up (if you can do so safely). If this is an AccessPORT version 2 (i.e. one with the color screen), then check out our data logging video below. If this is a version 1 AccessPORT, then you will need to use RomRaider (i.e. open source) to get a data log.

Ok thanks I'm doing a compression and leak down today at first i thought maybe a bad knock sensor or something the car has 65000 miles on it previous owner was extremely religious about maintenance anything other than oil changes was done by p&l so I guess I'll start with the compression/leak down and go from there

Oh and af learnings were all real close to 0 mostly all between 1 & 2 there were some spots where timing was being pulled in lower load ranges/ rpm but nothing over 2.0
