Default Front bumper seems loose. Is this normal?

I was attaching a license plate on the front bumper of my 2012 WRX the other day and I couldn't help but notice that the bumper didn't seemed to be fastened as securely as other exterior trim. When I applied a bit of pressure or pulled up slightly on the bumper it wiggles noticeably, moreso than any other car I've owned. Is it normal for the front bumper to seem kind of loose? I contacted the dealer and they didn't seem to have any idea if this was unusual.

Hit any potholes or hit any hard bumps as of late? Did you have a lot of snow? Could be possible a snap broke somewhere. Are you able to jack up your car to take a look under it? Is it lowered?

I did hit a hard bump last night inadvertently, but after looking underneath the bumper I see all the clips and whatnot are still attached. The bumper is secured pretty good to the chasis, but I can still move it slightly without very much force.

We did get alot of snow recently, but the car isn't lowered and has had plenty of clearance for most of the roads I've been on. No signs of scraping on the bumper either.

has the bumper ever been removed for mods or maintenance before? once an oem bumper has been removed it will never fit the same again... sad but true

Took the car by an auto body shop recommended by the dealer, and they confirmed that all the bolts and attachment points are intact. Apparently pre-2011 WRX's had plastic bolts that were too small for the openings which would have led to the looseness, although this was supposed to have been addressed after 2011. I'll contact the dealership tomorrow and see if they have this larger bolt kit for 2012's.

Never removed. The car is only about 2 months old at this point. For what it's worth there was a 2012 STi at the body shop and it seemed to have the same bumper "wiggle" so perhaps I'm raising a fuss over nothing.

just cause the shop was recomanded doesnt mean the new guy new anything about subarus. they comfirmed all the bolts made it back on the car hahaha only the person who put it back to gether nows the truth.

if your scared pop the hood and look over the car to see anythings missing. if the lines match up then its just you not the car.

Bumpers on the new WRX stuck... Very flimsy, I hit a piece of snow/ice that came off a truck and it cracked the bumper on my 2012. But I also think mine feels loose also compared to other cars I've owned

I have a 2011 impreza 2.0 R version and i noticed the same problem when i was at the car wash the other day. The front bumper feels too loose for a new car but i think its just the way they are designed. So don't worry there is nothing wrong with your car in particular.

Let me know if you find a way to correct this.

Yup, I have the same "wiggly" front bumper on my 2012 WRX hatch.

My 2012 WRX Premium Hatch also wiggles a little. I asked a body couple body shop, and they stated that it's normal for a front bumper to have a little wiggle. I too, was a little concern.

I took delivery of my '12 wrx hatch and noticed the same weakness in the front bumper. took it to the dealership and they said they couldn't look at it that day because they were too busy. of course the next day I'm trying to leave a driveway and even though I took it slow and at an angle, it was too steep and the front fender bottomed on the road. Now there's a nice collection of scrapes on the underside of the fender. of course when I go to try and talk to the dealership, they won't treat it as a factory issue, but as a driver issue. help?

Mine does the same. It did before I took it off and after I took it off for the Hella Horns it did it as well. Mine even looks like it became a little heavy for itself and has a slight gap difference between the fender and the bumper. The gap is slightly larger at the top towards the light and touching the fender at the bottom towards the wheel. This seems like an issue that was bound to happen since the bumper is only held on by plastic snaps under the lights and plastic clips. I would call this a Subaru design flaw and would need some innovative modding to delete the issue. Plastic bends, so that would explain the issue to me. Pisses me off, but as we know. you cant leave everything to the dealer to do it right.

yup mine feels loose as well, thats actually why im looking at this thread, i think im going to make some HSLA metal brackets for it... even though its a common problem it still annoys me. when i figure out what my game plan is ill put up a thread on how i fixed it.
