Lightbulb I Need A Movie Recommendation For Saturday Night

..for my fiance and I.. Doesn't have to be sappy, just something that doesn't insult my intelligence like Blue Crush.

I'm looking at the listings and don't see anything I care about.. Already saw Signs.. The only thing I might care about is My Big Fat Greek Wedding, just cuz Tom Hanks is involved there somewhere.. But if it's poorly done it'll be some ghey Message In A Bottle type thing.. We don't want that.

I'd rather not drop $9 each on XXX, Road To Perdition, Austin Powers, Spy Kids 2..

How's K-19??

Damn am I picky tonight.

Thanks,
lb

The Mexican or IIRC Mexico. Brad Pitt and ??? can't remember her name either. Very cool movie to rent. Chick flicky enough that she'll like it and good enough for us guyz. I liked it most cuz it was not very predictable. I hate predictable movies, yawn.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding was hilarious. Although if you rent, STiTuner is correct - High Fidelity is a must see. If you like foriegn films, Amelie was one of the best films I've seen in a long, long time. The woman who plays Amelie is freakin' gorgeous. Your girlfriend would definately like it too.

Thanks, all!

Definitely looking for in-theater recommendations, just not that much out right now.. Who knows, maybe we'll skip the movies this wknd and do something outdoorsy instead.. After all, isn't it supposed to be 25*F up here in New England in about a week?

Movies that will not insult your intelligence:

Recent thinkers:
-L.A. Confidential (Good cop, bad cop, neo-noir)
-Memento (backwards/forwards mystery)
-Bandits (hilarious! and very well-written with a clever ending)

Classics:
-Electric Horseman
-Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
-African Queen

"feel good" films:
As Good As It Gets
Contact
Pay It Forward

Quirky:
Ghostworld
Skipped Parts

One of my all-time favorites: Sphere! The most under-rated sci-fi flick of all time. (Original story by Michael Crichton, who did Jurassic Park, E.R., and it stars Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone, Samuel L. Jackson, and Peter Wolf - how can you go wrong?)

As for going to a theatre... I am afraid we're fresh out until the good movies of the winter arrive.

(This is not a list of my top favs, just a list of can't-miss films. )

sphere? you have to be joking...that movie sucked

why not XXX or Road to Perdition? especially if you like tom hanks i would expect you would be interested in road to perdition, considering it stars him

what's your zip code? i'll run a search on yahoo movies and see what's playing near you then make some reccomendations from that

lordbass? so you like fishing, huh?

Why don't you go see a play or something like that? something that isn't the norm, go see a live band. If there ain't nothing on.....there ain't nothing on! Go spend your money on the local community and support your local artisans.

Indeed! Movies are too expensive to just go see anything (at least at night), so we may just go poke around the city (we'll be in Boston) where there'll be plenty of entertainment.

I wondered if there'd be more video recommendations than theater in this thread.. More proof that nothing great is out right now?

Insomnia - I rented the original (Swedish) on a whim last year.. Was decent, but I didn't think thrilling enough for a Hollywood remake.. Evidently I don't know what makes a good Hollywood film.

Memento - Saw that in the theater. Flawed, but very entertaining. I think the soundtrack is around here somewhere..

Amelie - Very curious about this one, and "Amelie" is a babe.

The Big Lebowski makes me wanna put back some white russians & bowl.

Or what about seeing if any theaters are reshowing classics? Maybe The Godfather, The Graduate, etc.?

http://us.imdb.com/Find?select=all&for=insomnia lists like 7 movies named insomnia... are you sure it's based on the same one? it's the one w/ pacino and robin williams that i'm recommending fortunately robin williams does a good job of not being robin williams. plus christopher nolan is good at what he does. but i'll stop now
