Default 2015 WRX base/premium to limited/STI LED headlight conversion R&D

So after much tinkering with acrylic rods, then I tried LED strips (which came out quite nice...) I have decided to get straight to the point and invest in some limited/STI headlights for me 2015 WRX premium. Get a limited in the first place you say??? nah. I don't like the leather.

So in comes these 2015 LED headlights. They come with all LEDs/Bulbs and harness that plugs into the factory location. Same plug. Problem is there are extra pins. The goal is to find out what each of these pins do. If they are the same and if they will plug and play.

After taking a look at the harness of both I have composed a diagram as to what each wire does. (disclaimer = I am not an electronic engineer. I take no responsibility if you use this PIN-OUT and I am wrong. But I don't think that I am. )

Base/premium VS limited/STI PinOUT

The only variable that I have yet to define in the pinout is the orange wire at PIN 6 on the limited/STI harness. It is my assumption that this wire is for the auto on head lamps. I will know after I plug them in this weekend. I plan to leave this wire blank.

ASSUMING that this pinout is correct. The limited/STI model headlight should be a direct plug and play into the base/premium. You will not have auto level without a lot of extra work. But really.. who cares you don't have it now.

Headlights going in on Friday. Results TBD.

Subscribed. Very interested to see how this turns out. How much were the limited/STI headlights? Know I'll prolly get flamed for not looking it up myself, but I figured I'd just ask.

They look to be $750 a piece. He didn't pay that, though...must have the sweet parts hook up :/

Yeah $750 is a good estimate. But I did get a super sweet deal so I'm happy.

Went home during lunch. I couldn't wait any longer to find out if they will work.

Gents. They are plug and play. Everything works perfectly.

I am a happy panda.

I feared that Subaru implemented some sort of check relay. NOPE.

Nope. It's a 1500 difference between the two. I was a little under that. Not to mention I am selling my stock headlights. So its a win win !

Default 2015 WRX base/premium to limited/STI LED headlight conversion R&D

True but I doubt anyone will buy the stock headlights anytime soon unless they fit on previous gens

Plus I'm pretty sure there's at least one person out there that's too scared to crack their lights open to paint them. Someone will probably buy them before you resort to repainting them...

Hell, even if it was $2k for the headlights I'd still opt for the base or premium and buy the headlights separately. After having leather in my '07 WRX Limited, I wouldn't do it again.

The Subaru leather is known just like the paint jobs to be very low quality. Also, you slide off your seat in a hard corner.

This. And it's slippery. The cloth seats grab and hold. Leather seats are no good for autox

Love my leather and LED lights, the power driver seat adjustments make them that much better, the cloth seats must suck not having that kind of adjustability

How often do you really adjust? I haven't moved my seat more than 2-3x in the past year besides when I was moving crap or taking a mini nap (reclined) before work.

You mean pulling a handle instead of pushing a button...? I can still move up down, back and fourth and recline.
