Default 08+ WRX Omni Power 3 and 4 Bar MAP Sensor (also 05-07 LGT)

OK, everyone knows that Omni Power makes a plug and play MAP sensor for the 04-07 WRX and 04+ STI. Unfortunately, the 08+ WRX and 05-07 LGT use a remote-mounted MAP sensor that gets its boost input from a vacuum line off the manifold, and uses a different electrical connector than the STI sensor (and older WRX's). This mean the STI MAP sensors will not work.

When I was researching this topic, it seemed that the most common solution for the 08+ WRX was to purchase the AEM universal MAP sensor and hard wire it into the car. I was trying to avoid cutting into my OEM wiring, and eventually determined that the Omni Power MAP sensor for the 93-98 Toyota Supra looked very similar to the one on the 08+ WRX. I decided to give it a try, and it fit!

The 93-98 Supra MAP sensor is a perfect match both physically and electrically. It mounts in the OEM sensor location, using all OEM hardware and hoses. The electrical connector is identical and plugs right in. It is a 100% plug-and-play installation, and it would be completely possible to revert back to stock if so desired. No permanent changes are required.

Here is a link to the sensor on the Omni Power site:

http://omnipowerusa.com/product.asp?P_ID=164

And here is a photo of it next to the OEM 08+ WRX sensor:

I was very pleased to find that this sensor worked, and I hope this info will be useful for someone else! There are a few more photos at the end of the post.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why would you need an aftermarket MAP sensor? If you plan to run higher boost than the OEM sensor can read. This is somewhere in the 22psi range. If your boost levels are higher than that, you would probably want a new sensor, or else the ECU is essentially blind to what pressure is in the manifold. If you are running less boost than this, there is no benefit to upgrading the sensor.

Note: Once you have the sensor installed, you will immediately need to re-flash the ECU with new scaling parameters or the car will not start. This is because the sensor does not read the correct atmospheric pressure, so the vehicle won't turn over. Keep this in mind before you install the senor. The good news is that it literally takes 30 seconds to install or remove, so it's not hard to swap back to stock. The scaling values for the Omni Power sensors can be found here:

I helped Ben with this and was worth the time.
Not a bad (and affordable) mod for those who needs it.
