Arrest Ends High-Speed Seward Highway Motorcycle Chase

By Chris Klint
Channel 2 News
7:25 p.m. AKDT, September 4, 2012

ANCHORAGE, Alaska— An Anchorage man was stopped Monday afternoon after leading Alaska State Troopers on a high-speed motorcycle chase along the Seward Highway, which ended with his arrest on existing and new charges of driving with a suspended license.

According to a Tuesday AST dispatch, Girdwood troopers with the Alaska Bureau of Highway Patrol tried at about 2:30 p.m. Monday to conduct a traffic stop on 31-year-old Ronald E. Owens Jr.’s motorcycle, near Mile 98 of the Seward Highway. Instead of stopping, however, Owens gunned the white-and-black 1997 Honda and took off headed north on the highway.

“The motorcycle failed to stop for the Trooper and continued at speeds over 140 mph passing on the left and right,” troopers wrote. “The motorcycle turned around near mile 100 of the Seward (Highway) and started southbound at over 90 mph before finally stopping near mile 98 of the Seward Highway.”

Owens was charged with felony eluding, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license suspended. He also had an outstanding arrest warrant for driving with a suspended license.

Troopers say Owens is being held at the Anchorage Jail on $2,000 bail. His motorcycle was impounded.

Great ride man. Thanks for joining us. Stellar weather, food and company.

One of the fastest trips out of Hope I've taken, and Brando was in my mirrors the whole time. You've come far this year pilgrim.

The long running documentary series of moto GP racing release another episode recently.

The first movie was "Faster" in 2003, The next was "Faster and Faster".

The newest one is "Fastest". It just came out last year and is now available on Netflix in the last couple days. Don't miss it. Good stuff.

will have to look for it for sure.

Yamaha were not able to sell my Raider this summer so looks its going to be back in the garage for the winter. Bought bike stands for the FZ8 so it can sit upright off the tires for the winter. Will help with the room I'll need. Two cars and four bikes in a three car garage for the winter? I think so.

Good problems to have Mavrik.

I saw one as low as $8000 sit on craigslist for months. They are great bikes too. Just keep it.

One of the sales guys has a warrior which I think is a 1600cc yamaha. gonna let him ride the Raider and see if he likes it. Told him I'm willing to sell it at the amount on my loan. which is less then 8k.

The warrior is a 1670 cc v twin. They refer to it as a 1700. Revs a bit quicker but less torque than your bike.

*edit*

So its sunny at work, cloudy at my house. I decided to ride the FZ8 back from lunch. I got rained on by the time I got back to work while riding in the sunshine... was dry in the cloudy area. wth lol

rode the Raider home in the rain yesterday and of course today is sunny haha. I will be riding the FZ8 to work and back today. If the weather is like this tomorrow I'm going to take the FZ8 to Yamaha for an oil change before winter. Going to ride as much as I can but even though its sunny, its still cold brrr.

wow...

I'm content to keep both wheels on the ground thanks.

Did some riding today but the wind made it difficult. Also took the FZ8 to Yamaha and got an oil change, chain lube, fluids and tire pressure checked. Kept staring at their limited edition red and white R1... had to get the hell outta there before I made a mistake I would financially regret.

a yahoo with money or credit lol

wait you callin me a yahoo? old man?

Its more bike then I can handle thats for sure. I need to become more of a rider before I buy an R1. To me owning it would be like owning an STi Hatch simply cause it holds a lot of groceries and I drive in [i] mode all day to save fuel.

BTW anyone needing torco, Anchorage Yahama sells it as well as race fuel in their parts department.

In a few years I will own an R1 But I'm still trying to sell the last thing I bought for 15k. Anyone know someone who wants a Raider for 7.5k?
