sounds like you got a deal. the tires on the yzf600 are in pretty decent shape. gonna let my room mate swap them though since he's going to be the one riding it all summer.

lol dude I don't even think I would make it to my street. My street is pure ice right now.

If I had a pickup, I'd load a bike onto it and drive to a dry parking lot. unload and ride the bike on the dry streets. Load up and head home when bored.

Yesterday when I was at Yamaha a couple guys rode by on their bikes headed to HoHD more then likely. Made me sad... my bikes are at home.

I think it will be harder to resist riding after this weekend...

If the ice doesn't get you, the gravel very well could. It's much too soon.

Gonna keep this short. That'll be a first, eh?

EVERY year, early season riding catches someone out and they end up dead. Lots of folks itching to get out early. Roads are atrocious, as BJ mentioned, lots of gravel strewn about. Water can refreeze in shadows under bridges, or on painted strips on the road. Early riding can ruin your WHOLE season. Keep your head on a swivel….car drivers won't be watching out for bikes until someone makes the headlines with a fatal accident or two.

Just sayin'.

Also, big point!…after a season of riding, your skills grew considerably but that skill set has sat dormant for a long time hibernating. Your first 5 rides will be a readjustment to a very different vehicle than you've been in the last 6 months….different reaction times are necessary….don't think you just pick up where you left off. This is more like a case of 3 steps forward 2 steps back. Start slow, cautious and safe….then build on that foundation again.

Even after 38 years of riding, I still do this…and it has kept me alive so far.

Be safe fellas. Don't want to attend any funerals this year.

Oh I know Mike. My comment was just joking. I don't plan on riding anytime before mid-to-late April at the earliest. Gravel is still everywhere and I almost get run over in my Jeep, much less if I was on the bike.

With only a years season under my belt I plan on taking a class every year I can. Especially since they are free through base. Would be stupid not too.

I probably won't get out until mid april as well.

Unless by some miracle all this white stuff melts

You taking the class on base or at the Elmore location Brando? I'm planning on taking one of the early May classes.

Nice Mav!

Nancy, got home last night very late. She was speechless about the bike. It fits her perfectly. She loves it and can't wait to ride with us.

To get you all fired up this weekend, the Moto Gp testing season continues in Jerez, Spain.
All the current year paint schemes and team colors will be on display. The Ducati team made some big headway in the offseason. They moved to an aluminum frame (like the Japanese factories) and are now within a few ticks of the Honda's and Yamaha's. Should make for closer racing. Last year, they were down several seconds per lap. Rossi was really frustrated. Worst year of his career.

Also wanted to let you guys know to watch, Dust to Glory and On any Sunday 2, which are on Netflix now.

They are seperate classes scheduled through base. They don't mix the base class and paying class. The riding is at elmore.

Is there anywhere else I can get parts for a Honda cbr 600 other than ak cycle center? I can never make it out there when they're open.

^ The internet is your only hope unless you go to Hartley Motors in Palmer. But, if you live in Anchorage and can't make it to AK Cycle Center, I doubt you'll make it to Hartley.

Well I live in Eagle river but my job site is a 40 mile commute passed big lake. By the time I get off It's too late or I'm too tired to go all the way back to anchorage.

^^^ Hartley Motors may be the ticket then. It's on the service road off of Trunk Road. Heading towards Big Lake, you'll see it on the right about 1/4 mile after you pass under Trunk Road overpass.

So the roomie and I took apart the 2000 YZF600 yesterday. Had to remove all the cowling just to change the oil lol. Changed the spark plugs while we were in there and cleaned the air filter. He's gonna be riding this bike over the summer since I'm picking up something new. Thinking about getting it painted now that all the cowling is off.

Anyone going to the annual bike show april 7-8th?

I may go saturday but will be there the sunday.

Been thinking about starting my own Aprilia display there. We'll see if Taig and I can get my fleet presentable by then.
