Default Valvoline VR-1 5w-30 or Rotella T6 5w-40?

ok ive been reading about oil arguements on this site since 2007 lol. heres a rundown of my problem. i have an 2002 WRX running a VF34, sti pinks and a PDX tune around 19-20psi.

ive owned the car since 83,000 miles....completely stock. i ran Mobil 1 5w-30 in it until about 90,000 miles. the car burned the Mobil 1 and i spun a bearing. got a new assembled block from subaru, reassembled my old heads, new gaskets to the new block and began all my modding. ive been running Royal Purple 5w-30 since the rebuild. the car seems to love it....no burning, no smoke and no oil loss between changes.

i run Valvoline VR1 20w50 in my dads 1986 Porsche 911, as recommended to do so by a local Porsche specialized mechanic. he stated since they are flat tappet, they need the extra zinc protection. so recently, my timing belt pulleys went, and took out my valves in the process. since im in the middle of the rebuild, im trying to decide what to go with in terms of oil. i kind of want to switch to the valvoline for the extra protection, but would consider the Rotella, as most people in the ongoing oil threads swear by it. or do i just settle for RP since my engine seems to have no issues with it.

can someone give me the pros/cons of the Valvoline vs Rotella??

Glad there's another what oil thread. There's hasn't been one in months!

1. Stop using RP 5W-30 unless you're using the HPS line (more zinc and Synerlec ester additive)

2. Check your oil level weekly.

3. There's no such thing as VR1 5W-30.

Rottella T6 is an easy to find (wallmart) 5w40 oil that won't shear to a 5w30 because of excessive heat and spirited driving. It also doesn't seem to burn up like a lot of other brands.
