Question What kind of Rev limiter?

The rev limiters in 2001 RSs - do they cut off fuel or spark?

And while we're talking about them, how high can I raise limit on a stock engine, and how do I go about doing so?

Thanks.

To avoid calling the dealer you could start the car, hop under the hood, crank the throttle wide open, and grab onto a spark plug and see.
Uh. But don't blame me if it doesn't feel good.

I kind of think it shuts off the fuel. If it just killed the spark raw fuel would dump down the exhaust and ignite when it hit the hot pipes, causing massive backfire. Or so that's what I think anyway.
Anybody else?

Well, many cars cut off spark, but I'm not sure if the consequences are what you've predicted. Thanks for the input, though.

I'm suprised nobody knows off the top of their head.

They are spark cut... fuel cut is really nasty. you may hit it if you were to mod a wrx to the limits of the turbo without some alternate management system. it realy bucks! DSM's will do the fuel cut boogie as well, and it like geting hit in the back with a baseball bat.

I asked the same question a while ago in another thread......with no real answer. I think the majority of the people thought it was a spark cut though. Aren't a majority of the OEM rev limiters fuel cut though? It's stupid...but I thought that was the way it was.
