I was on the freeway and it died out, figured it was dead battery or something, checked battery and alternator and both were good. A fried suggested fuel pump, so I changed tat and it still won't crank over. When I try cranking it it does nothing, so i had a friend jump it and it starts to turn but won't catch. A friend is saying bad starter but that would cause my car to cut
Out while driving would it? I also have been driving on a blown turbo for a good 500+ miles but finally found a new one so thatll go in today, so any suggestion on what it could be?

I also heard like a clunk then it cut out, but
I'm not entirely sure it was internal, i could have coincidently ran over something. |

Are you sure your battery is good? I had a problem with a brand new battery. Anytime I hit a bump in the road my engine and everything electrical would shut off for a split second and come back on again. It turned out to be a short between 2 battery cells. I replaced the battery and that fixed the problem.

Did your timing belt brake?

Pulled spark plugs today and they had a bit of oil on the tips of them, they all seemed fried. Would it be possible since I was driving on a blown turbo for so long that oil got inside there with the "air" if my timing belt broke would my crank but not catch? At this point I can't even get any sounds or any form of engine trying to start unless I'm being jumped, but then it quickly dies out. My battery should be good, everything works, radio, air, lights, etc etc.

If your battery is good, I don't understand why you are having to jump start it.
When you jump start it you say it quickly dies out. Does it die out before or after you remove the jumper cables? The reason I ask is if the car dies after removing the jumper cables then your battery might not have enough power to run the electronics to keep the engine running. Even if you had fouled spark plugs it still doesn't explain why you need a jump to turn your engine over. Also I would think you would have noticed performance problems over a period of time before the engine would shut down due to fouled plugs. I know you said you checked both, but from what you are describing it still sounds like either alternator or battery. Last edited by hardball75006; 02-17-2012 at 07:26 PM. |

If it was my battery wouldn't it be able to start if it was jumped? My bad let me correct my terminology, it won't even try starting without being plugged to another car, just gives me that "dead batter feel" minus being able to use all the inside electronics. I'm thinking it might be a cam sensor or crank sensor, I'll replace both whenever they get here.

Battery was bad, replaced it and still wouldn't start, then realized, "oh my tmic isn't attached oh wait and it's turboless, I probably might need some pressure in there to get this thing to crank over" thanks for your help and Hardball you were right.

Glad to hear you got it fixed. I did not mean to be so persistant about the battery, but my car was doing almost the same thing. |

You're the reason I had it replaced since it was only two months ago since it was, but hey it worked in happy now invites finish my swap. I have one more question, my car shouldn't start currently correct? Turbo, tmic downpipe removed.

I can't answer that question because I don't have a turbo.
