Will the world end if I leave the access port plugged in ( screen is on)?

It'll burn an image into the screen, and decrease it's lifetime(theoretically), but sure.

The OBDII port always has power, so leaving the AccessPORT plugged in can lead to screen burn-in. Other people have done it though, and the world hasn't ended...yet.

Thanks, I will unplug (large plug) it when the car is not in use for anytime over a day. That should keep the world tuning!

The Cobb access port is a great tool, I wish I had one for my human body.

Thanks.

The Tactrix doesn't even have a screen, but it has no power management features so you could drain the battery if you leave it plugged in for several days without driving the car around. Sounds like it's the same situation for the AP?

Hey COBB, you know my ScanGauge shuts off after about 10 seconds when I turn the key to the off position and automatically starts up when I turn the key to the on position... How about making the AP able to do that...? And oh yea how about an 90*elbow for the OBD2 plug end so that I and others don't pull or push the plug around with our legs snagging the wire while driving or when getting in and out of the car...?

Or you could not be lazy and unplug when you get out and plug in after you get in... It takes two seconds!

Yes. The thing here is that the OBD port is hot at ALL times. Therefore anything that's plugged in (unless it has a shutoff feature, or something of the sort) is going to be a parasitic draw on the battery.

I've been unplugging and plugging in my AP daily for over 18months. No loose connections, and fits like a glove. It actually takes a good little amount of force to unplug it. I wouldn't be too concerned about it IMO.

Yes, I "could" do that... Oh, wait a minute... I DO, do that. I'm thinking FEATURES that can make the AP BETTER. JMO You know, improving the product, adding features people are asking for...

Touche. I would rather have them revamp the 06+ wrx maps first (like they just did for the 02-05 maps) before they start R&D on improving/adding to the functionality of the AP. Maybe keep that in mind for the AP V3 (if they end up making another version)

Edit: you can probably get a pinout from Cobb on the wiring, and put the power wire on a toggle switch, so no more plugging/unplugging of the dongle, and you don't kill your battery or burn your screen from prolonged "use".

Another option - Tactrix actually sells an ODB extension cable that has the desired 90 degree elbow.

This is a bit off topic... Does the AP have to be plugged in every time you drive the car? I just purchased one for my 2011 WRX (still waiting on shipping).

No it doesn't need to be plugged in ever, once you flash a base map... Until you want to change maps or datalog, check codes or use the AP as a gauge, (boost gauge for example)...

Why not make an aftermarket cable with on/off switch sum1? How hard would it be to wire one into existing cable? I just got a cobb ap and i want mount it on pillar like a boost gauge, then tuck all wires and put toggle switch in one empty switch ports on left side of steering column
