What have you Abilene guys to say about the lovely little town referred to as Clyde....?

My girlfriends dad is from there and I'll be visiting in October. She's painted a pretty detailed picture but I'm curious to anything else you guys think about it haha

hey kirby, what turbos have you run on your leggy? i am trying to decide whether to go with the vf52 or one of the BNR turbos for my forester. not trying to make any crazy power like my bugeye, but want something with a decent punch that will hold okay to redline. right now, i am leaning towards the EVOIII 16g from BNR, but i wanted to see if you had actually run one of their turbos. i haven't actually talked to anyone or had the priveledge of tuning anyone running a BNR or VF52 setup as of yet. i've tuned a few vf48's which are similar to the 52, but not quite the same.

abrumlev, honestly i've never done much but pass through clyde so...can't say really.

Get the 52, its a great turbo. I almost got the 16g but I'm wary of running what is basically remanufactured turbo. I put down what I think was great numbers on stock fuel and full exhaust, bigger intercooler and I could've made more but my AVO one didn't want to play nice.

AVO? turbo or intercooler?

the only thing that is catching my attention about the EVOIII 16G is how well it holds power up top vs the vf52. it appears that BNR has really good customer service, better compressor and turbine wheels, better bearings, and amazing willingness to honor their warranty (in some cases even after it has expired). on the other hand, the vf52 is an oem turbo. so reliability theoretically should be decent there as well. i definitely don't want to go much higher than the power level of these two turbos. i am really impressed with the vf52's peak power output, but it falls off almost as quick as the stock TD04...not quite as quick, but still pretty quick. honestly, the stock TD04 really isn't all that bad. on 93oct it will put down probably around 240whp/350wtq with just downpipe, intercooler, aftermarket bcs, and a tune. on E85 those numbers should jump up even higher. the issue is that the 350wtq is happening at just 2400rpm, but by 4000rpm that number is down close to 240wtq. i am really looking for something that will still spool pretty quick (so vf52/evo 16g size), but i want something that is going to have more linear power curves. BNR seems to have advertising suggesting that, but i too am weary about something not OEM.

here is a video of a 2010 fxt on 91oct at Cobb in Plano to give you an idea of the stock setup on a pretty conservative tune

ahh...that is the intercooler i was going to go with. was there something specifically wrong with it, or was it just not a good day for keeping things cool?

We couldnt get it to fit. Maybe things will be easier for you though. Check out the Process West knockoff one, nice and big. I have one sitting in the box and dont know if i will ever get around to installing it.

i really like how that one looks and the size of it, but i have a couple of worries about it. i am not so sure about how far over the turbo it sits...afraid that may cause quite a bit of heatsoak very quickly. also, since my hoodscoop is similar to the legacy gt scoop and not like the wrx scoop, in order to get a nice duct seal, i am going to have to get something fabricated or run without ducting.

Get a blanket if you are worried about heatsoak. The greatest part about the newer WRX/LGT/FXT motors is the composite intake manifolds since they dont get hot like the metal ones, so you end up with a much cooler engine bay. The intercooler will will work effeciently enough with the stock scoop and ducting, I would be more worried about that panzy ass 4EAT holding up. Still amazes me subaru uses that transmission still when the 5EAT is better and holds more power.

there are quite a few guys pushing over over 400wtq daily on the 4eat so...they aren't completely horrible.

not sure if there is anything official anymore...someone may reply to you on here (i would tell you where and when but i no longer live in abilene). you can also check out abileneracing.forumcity.com...i know some of the guys visit that site frequently, and there is always the failsafe plan of just hitting up north 1st around 11pm in the old advance auto parking lot. that always had an INTERESTING mix of people. the drift guys are always pretty cool to hang with and for the most part are pretty accepting as long as they don't act like a tool.

Kits is a little long. I was stockpiling parts but never put most of them on, lol. I got a full set of pads, rotors, and lines. CAI, EBCS, ball joints, FMIC, coated equal length header and uppipe. 1000cc top feeds and dw65c pump. I might 've forgetting some stuff. I'm down in San Antonio right now but I usually go home every couple weekends so I'll look again
