Default 2012 impeza sedan roof rack

I have a 2012 sedan. I wouldnt call it a naked roof. There is a black strip going down either side of the roof. On my father in laws 5 door. Looks like the same strip, but he has "panels" that look like they can be removed to add the roof rack. Im wondering if
there are the holes under this strip on my car, that i can buy the different strips and add a roof rack? I would post a pick but I dont know how.

I emailed Yakima to see when their Whispbar setup will be out for the '12 Impreza and then said that they didn't have an idea, but would forward it to their product team

What are people using to carry kayaks around? I would prefer to have some sort of aero bar over the round ones, but it doesn't seem like any exist yet.

I've just been using round bars and yakima rail grabs for my sport to carry my hobie adventure for about a month now. With the wind fairing it's very quiet even with kayaks on. I also have not noticed any decrease in MPG since the system is on my car 24/7.

This Saturday I'm heading to Rack Attack to see if I can get the Yakima Whispbar flush crossbars on my raised factory rails. I think it should work as from what I've read the flush ones are designed to be a universal fit on factory raised rails without any need for adapters. I'm planning on getting two front-loader trays as well for my bikes.

I'll report back and hopefully it'll all work out.

I saw that. Were you looking at the flush mount ones or the through bar? I know the through bar requires a specific fitting foot for the Impreza's rails, which Yakima doesn't have out yet. The flush crossbar ones appear to just clamp on rails from the videos I've seen without any sort of vehicle-specific adapter.

Here's one video with the flush crossbar:

I also contacted Yakima and they gave me the same BS. So I told them the space between the rails as reported here on the forums (40" front, 37" rear) and the rep I spoke to said the Whispbar S44 should fit... but that was just her "guess" at this point. According to her, the Whispbar Rail only comes in about a ten different sizes, and each size actually has a bit of play in it. For example, the S44 will fit gaps between 36" and 40". I may give this a try once I can actually find a new Impreza. If anyone beats me to it, let me know.

Those whispbars are supposed to be quieter than other cross bars? I was thinking how ugly the silver looked, but I guess you could paint them black to match the rails, or even match the color of your ride. They're kind of spendy at 350. What's wrong with the sport aero bars? You can get those on ebay for 150, and they look like they were made for the rails.

If you get the Subaru Sport Aero bars, can you still use the Yakima kayak holders, for example, on them? I thought that the Yakima kayak holders would only fit on Yakima bars.

I'll take more pictures Sunday when I go pick up my bike.

The Yakima Whispbar S45 in the front and S43 in the rear fit without problems. The moonroof tilt clears as well (but not completely with the bike trays on).

Exactly the set up I'm hoping to put on my sport model, do you think this will safely carry my kayaks also?

PS white sport is the best sport...

Where did you end up purchasing your Whispbars? Do you like them?

So can we NOT get the sport's rails on a regular hatch? They look so much better and my roof looks naked without anything.

^nope, they're bolted through the roof. I've heard that people wanting to take the sport rails off have to remove the headliner in the car and have the holes from the rails spot welded shut

if any of you are desperate enough or have enough balls, call the dealership's part department and see if you can just order the sport rails. not as an accessory. say yours got damage.

It'll carry kayaks with no problem. I'm carry a 75lb canoe on mine, although I don't use any specialized carrier.

Is my only option if I have a naked roof? Without doing something drastic.

I'm about to pull the trigger on the oem aero bars. They are not that expensive. But can someone give the dimensions of the bars?

I may be retarted but how do you order 2 different sizes for the bars? Or is it $349 for only one rail and not both?

Went with a local shop in Portland called ReRack. Rack Attack also sells them.

Retail for the bars, which is $349. Free install though (not that difficult).

I don't think it's possible online, but maybe. Since I went with a shop, they were able to mix and match without any additional cost.
