Is my only option if I have a naked roof? Without doing something drastic.
I believe so. You can check your roof to make sure you have the openings for the rails on your roof

I don't think it's possible online, but maybe. Since I went with a shop, they were able to mix and match without any additional cost.
Just to confirm, those are the Whispbar Rails correct? They fit in between the factory rails and not on top right?

I've a question/s..
Would it make sense to purchase aerobars and get fairings? Aesthetics aside, are there any other benefits? Aerobars are pricier than the standard square/round load bars.

What differences are there between Yakima's Railgrab and Thule's Crossroads systems?

I have a Sport Limited with Moonroof - my first "real" car!

Thanks all!

The Yakima Railgrab uses round bars, and the mounts clamp to the crossbars independently to the clamp on the roof. When you remove the Yakima, the mounts stay firmly attached to the crossbars. The mounts themselves use a claw/tab that grips the factory rail.

The Thule Crossroad uses square bars, and tightens to the factory rail using a rubber coated metal strap. When you tighten the strap to the factory rail, it also clamps down on the crossbar, so when you remove the mount from the car, the mount slides free of the crossbar.

Yes. The ones I have are just the rails. They are a bit more expensive than the OEM, but they really are quiet and I like the added deterrent of having them locked down since I've got some expensive items on there at times. I still would never leave it unattended for long though.

I feel like the S44 could work for both, since the measurements fall between what the distance between our rails are, but for whatever reason the shop felt the 43 and 45 were a better fit.

Did not realize the aero bars limited the options of what you could mount. That would explain why they're so cheap.

Oddbaru, the next time you have your roof rack clear, could you snap a pic of how those whispbars look? I would like to see that.

So, a bit off topic. But I am drooling over the sport's roof rails but also looking at that roof spoiler/lip? It looks like a different one thats on my regular premium. Can I put that on my car? I saw it on the site I listed earlier that has my option for a rack. It looks awesome

Thanks for the info. Another question...
Lots of Yakima and Thule users here. Anybody using Inno bars? Orsdirect carries them as well and prices are pretty competitive. Thanks all.
Also what would be a reasonable length for crossbars (any brand) I don't want to have them extend too bar beyond the side roof of the car.

I pulled the trigger on the oem aero bars and the yakima load warrior. the heavy duty oem cargo carrier has the exact same dimension and the yakima load warrior. except the yakima is cheaper.

Just ordered the S44 Whispbars, figured that they would fit good enough, they have about 36" - 40" of adjustability.

Just ordered the load warrior off amazon. Holy crap!! Fast shipping, fast as amazon prime 2 day shipping and I bought it for 219 shipped to my door. Just sharing my experience. And it looks very sturdy. Now just waiting for my cross bars to come in.

I don't know if it will work with an Inno rack system; but i got a Yakima Windjammer http://www.orsracksdirect.com/yakima-8001115.html for my Yakima roundbars/Railgrab system and it virtually eliminated the noise from the crossbars. I personally think it looks better than the fairing, you're not driving around with a big Yakima advertisement...a lot cheeper too.

Yeah, that might be an option. Thanks for the info! I'll definitely look into that.

I just received my Yakima Whispbar Rails from Rack Attack and can confirm the S54 fits perfectly.

To those of you with the roof spoiler, does it interfere at all with whatever racks you have? That is, can you open the truck all the way while you have your bike, or kayaks, etc...still on the rack(s)? Thanks, thinking of picking up the roof spoiler, but want to make sure that it won't interfere with the primary functionality of the car, its utility.

Mine does not.....I have the Rockymounts rack, and even with my 29" wheel bike on it, factory base rack, not rails, there is no touching.

on a side note, here is one of my inno fairings...I have the same one, medium, on both cars. This one pictured is from the WRX, but it is the exact same fitment on the 2012 2.0i

Looks splendid. I have a sunroof. I don't think i can get a fairing and go crazy collecting stickers without reducing the usability of the sunroof.

S54. The Whispbar Rail S44 has two identical bars that cover a span between 36-40 inches. The S54 has a rear bar that covers the same span, but the front bar covers a span of 38.5-42.5. I thought that would be more appropriate for the front rail span (which is 40").

I installed the bars as far forward and as far back as possible, which places each Whispbar about 33" apart. The Whispbars are super quiet when driving - I don't notice any difference in noise with or without them. Plus, they can be installed and removed in a matter of minutes. My only "complaint" is that the front bar hovers above the sunroof, but then again when they're loaded up with kayaks, there will be no reason to open the sunroof anyway!

Now, on to the pics. Didn't get a chance to really wash or clean up the car - I just snapped these 15 minutes ago. Here's my two-tone Sage Green Impreza with just 250 miles on her:

Got up on a ladder to snap a pic of the Whispbars from above:

Here's a close-up view of the front S54 Whispbar where it meets the roof rails. Protective cover removed so you can see the terminus of the rail (yellow oval). As you can see, the length of the aluminum extends almost all the way, which is a good thing. The shorter bar from the S44 might still work here, but because its not as long, it won't extend as far, thus possibly compromising support.

I'm going on a camping/kayaking trip next weekend, so I'll be sure to follow-up with some pics of the kayaks mounted on the Whispbars. Stay tuned.

Thanks, appreciate it. Of course, you know what I'm going to ask now. Would you mind taking a pic with the trunk open while you have your 29er on top? Thanks. BTW, I love the wheels and lugs combo.
