Probably not a big deal. I took a chance too, since Yakima still doesn't have an "official" fit for the 2012 Impreza. Kinda ridiculous, especially for a car that's been available for over half a year. When I ordered from Rack Attack online, I actually got a call a couple hours later from one of their reps who tried to tell me there was no fit available for the 2012 Impreza. He wanted to cancel my order. Glad I stuck with it though!

Worst case scenario: if the S44 doesn't fit just right, exchange it for the S54.

Yeah I will do that. The place I ordered from online charges a restocking fee plus shipping, so I may try to exchange it in a local store instead.

So I just got my roof rack and cross bars on. Yakima and oem. The oem aero bars are ok. The right is pretty loose. But I can't see anything being ripped off. And I just realized Subaru accessories are rebranded Yakima stuff.

Do you mind measuring the distance between the front crossbar (preferably from the attachments channel) and the front edge of the sunroof?

I don't have my Impreza yet (8-12 weeks wait , but I'm already planning my roof rack) but I have an old Yakima fairing which I'm planning to recycle .

Well I got mine yesterday, the S44, and it seems like these will work too. I put one on the front which has the largest span, and it fit all the way towards the front without a problem.

For anyone wondering if you can open the hatch with a bike on top:

My full suspension bike has a longer wheelbase than a lot of bikes, so you can see that the spoiler rests on the rear tire. This prevents the hatch from opening about another inch. It is still plenty accessible. Those with hardtails or other shorter wheelbase bikes should not have this problem.

However, if you have the Yakima Frontloader trays, the spoiler will come in contact with those plastic end pieces you can see in the picture (when you don't have a bike on). They can be removed in a second by pinching the sides to prevent this prior to opening the hatch and then popping them back on afterwards. You'll be left with about 1/8" clearance. I could not get the spoiler to come in contact with the trays after I pushed up on the hatch as best I could. My crossbars are installed as far forward and back as they can be.

Are you pretty happy with the Frontloader? I'm ordering a Yakima and was leaning towards those over the Raptor.

I've got no complaints. Not sure if the Raptor has this, but I like that the Frontloaders have an integrated locking system securing the trays onto the crossbars as opposed to the High Rollers. The Frontloaders install/remove pretty easily too when you need it.

My bike can get pretty dirty at times, so I like that the bike is secured without contacting the frame. This was the primary reason for me opting for the Frontloaders over other Yakima options (besides the High Roller). No need for any additional scratches/gouges when I accomplish that myself on the trail.

This is my first time with having my bikes on a roof, so my only real concern is just me doing something stupid and having them fall off. That's not unique to this particular rack though.

Yeah, I'm moving from Thule hitch mount racks to a roof rack, so I'm in the same boat.

I'll be carrying a cyclocross bike (mine) and some sort of hybrid (fiance's), mainly to be used on bike paths. One of these days I need to get the money to get a 29er or something for some cross country trails. I miss my old Hard Rock.....

I need help!

I have a Limited 2012 Impreza. I also have some Thule J shaped Kayak cradles. Will these fit on the OEM aerobar. Also is there any advantage to get Thule aerobars vs. the OEM. On that note does anyone know who the OEM crossbars are made by?

I really dig how the Thule and Yakima racks add to the already awesome utility do everything look of the car.

Subupreza12: How do you have your fairing mounted so far forward of the front crossbar?

For anyone: Are you able to use the fairing with a sunroof?

Does anyone know if a 16 cubic foot Yakima Black Classic Standard Rocketbox will fit on a 2012 Impreza hatchback, and if 58.5" wide Yakima bars would be too wide?

Can you take some pics with the canoe on. I'm curious to see how mine will fit on my DGM sport I'll be picking up Tuesday

I wonder why Thule's fitment guide doesn't show the 450 Crossroad as a fit for the 2012 Impreza Sport Premium, when clearly it fits well for you. Don't they want to sell gear to us?

I have a 44" on mine and it makes contact just fine.

I'll see if I can get a pic up.

The bike carriers are the Frontloader, which so far seem pretty good.

Default Installing "Sport" Roofrack on regular model

I just bought a 2012 Impreza Limited because the dealer offered a much better price on it than the sport model. I figure I'll buy the sport roofrack seperately and install it. I know I need to replace the moulding as well, and wondered if anyone has already done this. Any tips?

Here is a link to the moulding I know I'll need to purchase:

there is a person who took them off by the dealer. and he said it is very difficult to do so. but sorry i cant be much help other than advising you to not do it unless you are very mechanical sound. I am mechanically sound some what (tearing up a motor level and wiring), i wouldn't tackel this job unless you absolutely want the sport rails.

I got the 48" Yakima bars, they're just wide enough at the front (they stick out maybe 2" on each side, more at the back). I can take measurements if you want. I was debating getting wider bars in case I want to load more than will fit on the 48s in the future, but decided against it since I don't have a need yet and I don't like the look of the bars if they stick out too far. Not to mention you could hit your head on them if you're not careful.

I also bought the Yakima Skybox 16s (which is 16 cu ft, but may not fit the same as the one you're asking about). It fit fine with the bars as far forward on the car as they could go (and the adjustable anchors on the Skybox as far back as they could go). The roof spoiler of the hatch makes contact with the Skybox when opened all the way, but it's not problematic.

What mounts are you using for those yakimas? They dont look like the normal rail grabs? I am picking up the exact same car Saturday and need to get my rails right away and would love to know. THanks.
