Default BRZ Turbo Options

For those who have been crying that the BRZ will not be turbo'd I thought I would throw out some information that I've been able to obtain through a little work. Greddy is already working on a turbo it for this platform, no surprise. In addition, I've contacted AMS Performance and they plan on some things for this platform. Full-Race told me that they would be looking into it after the launch and I've also heard that Crawford Performance would be as well, although I have not personally verified that one.

For those whining out there, you have to take into consideration who is behind all of this. Yes, Subaru is building it but much of the financing and behind the scenes stuff is Toyota. When was the last time Toyota turbo'd something from the factory, 1994? IIRC. When was the last time they turbo'd a Scion? Never! It wasn't meant to be from the factory. It weights 2762 lbs.. Do you realize how hard it would be to loose that much weight on a WRX? It will be much easier to add power to this car than take weight away from a WRX. Just give it time and this car will amaze people.

/rant.

I guess I should have changed the title to companies working on turbo options for the BRZ. I guess so many people are sick hearing about the fact that it doesn't have one that no ones come to this thread. I fail!

When I get my BRZ that I will never get, I will be very interested in turbo options. But really, I'll never get a BRZ . Maybe eight years from now, I'll buy a 2012.

I don't believe I will ever buy a new car, anyways. Especially not a NEW first-year new car.

I know how that goes, been there done that. I agree, I wonder how many issues the BRZ will have on this first year. My guess is not many, but you will always be able to find one a year from now from someone that either didn't like it because it wasn't AWD or it was more to work on to get it turbo'd, you never know.

Good luck with school and when you're done, reward yourself with a new car, you've worked hard and will deserve it.

I feel you . I'm exactly on the same boat as you, but I was contemplating if I should trade in my car and get the BRZ. As a college student, my mind is telling me no and to wait to buy it used.

In the grand scheme of things, it's better to be young and smart like you guys (not getting a BRZ or any new car because of school and lack of funds) then to be young and stupid like I was when I got my WRX. I was paying $500 a month for the car payment and $200 a month for insurance.

^^^The force is strong with this one. Finish school then get a car. There will always be another car that you're going to like and there will always be time to get it. School is way more important than a new car. Trust me, get it done and then reward yourself.

I must be one of the rare people who finds the fact that the BRZ will be a 2.0l N/A to be appealing. I've grown tired of my WRX (which I bought new in 2005 at age 19 ) and I have been planning to pick up a used S2000 for a weekend car. Well, the new BRZ really caught my attention - and near perfect timing.

I've had a couple problems with my WRX, nothing significant, but I no longer care about a lot of horsepower. Throttle response and light weight are what I desire - too much driving S2k's at the autocross I suppose.

As for the finishing college conversation, I'm right there with all of you. I will be finishing my Masters program in about a year, so pending a decent job after that, the BRZ may just be my grad present to myself .

I'm hoping the fact that the BRZ is a 2+2 will bring the insurance costs down a little bit too.

^^^ I don't think it's under powered, I would just like a little more. I love the fact that it weights 2600+ lbs and has 200HP NA. I've just owed a couple higher HP WRX/STI's and I know I would like a little more based on my preferences. Not a ton more, like 300 WHP would be perfect for this car.

I think it's great that many are still focusing on their education. It seems like bachelor degrees are the new high school diploma and so it appears that a masters degree is a must.

Exactly! I know it's quite a bit, I guess once I get one and start modding it I'll make the final decision as to what the right amount is but I had 340 WHP on my 06 WRX and I wanted just a little more.
