Subaru Stars Soooo it begins...:)

Ok...so I am first in line at my local dealer to buy a BRZ..
can't wait...went to Detroit..and Chicago to get/see info on the BRZ/FRS
First off...Fairly impressed with most things on the BRZ...I Plan to AutoCross it Nationally with James Wilson in ST Class...It seems that I will be one of the first to try and make this thing competitive..I have lots of backing to ensure its competitiveness...
*Kartboy
*Grimmspeed
*Nameless Exhuast components
*RaceComp/AST
*Whiteline
*SubyDude
and a couple of others to fill in the gaps...

Chances are...this car is 'probably' going to C Stock ...and ST R or X depending on how it drives when the SAC drives it... I think it will be competitive in either class.

What we know:
-Late Model WRX Rear Suspension, Where Rear Sways and Coilovers should be no problem bolting right up

-5x100 boltpattern....be that as it may...deal with it... most likely choice for wheels for me....17x9 with a 43 offset should fit the bill nicely.

-Starting off with a mild 245/40/17 tire to begin with (HanKook R-S3's) Class rules will allow a 265 in STR and 255 in STX...that should fill in the wheelwells

-Subaru and Scion are bragging about the handling of this Platform...I will make it better. AST Dual Adjustable Suspension with Camber plates are in the Plan...the big Question is Spring rates...probably will start off with a 8k front and a 8k rear...

-Weight is 2762 lbs seems to be advertised weight...plan is to get it down to about 2600 in race trim including getting rid of the rear muffler altogether and just putting a turndown or a kick on it for weight reduction..

-Torsion Rear LSD..Will be changed out to OSGiken 1.5 Custom Mechanical LSD

-Steering is Rear Steer vs. Front Steer normally found on Subaru...so when you add camber....usually it toes' out the alignment...for general purposes...now. with the rear steer it should toe 'in'...sooo physical alignment will now become the norm at events...we'll see

Purposed Mods:

2013 BRZ Limited (yes with all the goodies...for resale value later)
AST RaceComp Suspension 8k front, 8k rear
Whiteline Adjustable Swaybars
17x9 43 offset Wheels
245/40/17 Hankook R-S3's (Already have)
Frt Camber plates
OS Giken 1.5 Mech LSD
Lightweight Front Seats...maybe TRD Recaro option
Stainless brake lines
Motul Fluids

That would Get me started...
thoughts???

Sorry for the book

Bill

That sounds like a good start to me. I don't understand all the rules for the categories, but does it allow for changing out the clutch, flywheel, and driveline. By decreasing the rotational mass in those areas alone think of the increased response. What about brakes?

I'm going boosted as soon as I can!

I can change the brakes...but not necessary, as the 'rotational mass' is not worth the extra weight... I can change the clutch and flywheel...but not the driveline...Cars that will be in the same expected class:
-Mazda MX5
-Honda S2000
-BMW Z1
and few others...

Carbon Fiber driveshaft, and hopefully Oswald Performance releases lightweight bumper beams.

I might have to subscribe to this for interest...

So do you plan on gutting the interior, at least partially, and then putting all the stuff back when you want to sell it as a Limited trim vehicle? Seems counter-intuitive to buy the more expensive (and likely heavier) trim from the start.

There should be aftermarket set ups that are lighter and better.

Subscribed to see and hear what your car will eventually look like. I would love to see what a focused effort of this car can look like and do.

For the rear diff -- is this a unit that is just going to be a bolt in replacement, or something more 'race bred' with adjustable clutches in it? Looks like you need to know what you are doing here and have to replace the standard guts.... I will leave that to you!

Reference: http://www.osgiken.net/products/superlock.html

Any reason for front and rear sways? I definitely don't know enough here, especially with a RWD car, but my short time with sways had me wanting to run more rate just to get rid of the sways (which I did on the rear of the STi).

Planning on doing anything else with the car, other than autoX? I assume you are with the stainless steel lines, but just interested to know. Is it going to accommodate daily use and autoX, or really just be a speciality beast?

Good luck! I eagerly await to live vicariously through your hard work on this car!

I am also first for one. I don't plan to race, but wanted to add. I wouldn't bother with the limited. All you are adding is heated seats and mirrors, foglights, a wing, some leather and the proximity key. Save the $3k and the extra 100 lbs and get a base model. These are going to be hard to get so it will still hold its value for a few years.

The difference is around 14lbs between Premium and Limited trim with the same transmission.

I live in Wisconsin so the heated seats/mirrors are almost a must...and 14 lbs is minimal..

14lbs for all of the options that come on the limited over the premium is really not a lot at all.

I've been thinking about those TRD seats. Are they fixed back? I think their price will knock them out as potential seats simply due to aftermarket probably being just as good and cheaper.

Those 245/40 are going to be huge. Gotta get something like a SSR Compe or similiar to counter the heaviness compared to the stockers.

Sounds cool, but I'm waiting till all you guys finish that 1yr R&D that most first year platforms go through.

well...since I am going to campaign the BRZ at a national level in Autocross...I am actually either 10 or 20 mm shy of the class limit...255 or 265 is the class limit for 2WD...depending on which class it gets thrown in.. and yes...probably RPF1's...to start with...17x9...

I'll be following the build.

I'd recommend moving to the Motorsports section for more constructive criticism and questions.

Bill
That's the TRD Japan catalog, which is a different company than TRD USA (according to people that know about Toyota/Scion) so we might not get the same parts.
