Ok...so I am first in line at my local dealer to buy a BRZ..
can't wait...went to Detroit..and Chicago to get/see info on the BRZ/FRS First off...Fairly impressed with most things on the BRZ...I Plan to AutoCross it Nationally with Bart Hockerman in STX Class...It seems that I will be one of the first to try and make this thing competitive..I have lots of backing to ensure its competitiveness... *Kartboy *Nameless Performance components and Tuning service. *KW Suspension *Strano Performance *SubyDude/Wheeldude *and Various other Whiteline goodies etc.... and a couple of others to fill in the gaps... Chances are...this car is 'probably' going to C Stock ...and ST R or X depending on how it drives when the SAC drives it... I think it will be competitive in either class. What we know: -Late Model WRX Rear Suspension, Where Rear Sways and Coilovers should be no problem bolting right up. what we don't know...is what the front Suspension will have, stock, for adjustment ..guess we will find out. -5x100 boltpattern....be that as it may...deal with it... most likely choice for wheels for me....17x9 with a 43 offset should fit the bill nicely. -Starting off with a mild 245/40/17 tire to begin with (HanKook R-S3's) Class rules will allow a 255 in STR and 265 in STX...that should fill in the wheelwells -Subaru and Scion are bragging about the handling of this Platform...I will make it better. KW variant 3's Dual Adjustable Suspension with Camber plates are in the Plan...the big Question is Spring rates...400 frt and 325 rear.... -Weight is 2762 lbs seems to be advertised weight...plan is to get it down to about 2600 in race trim including getting rid of the rear muffler altogether and just putting a turndown or a kick on it for weight reduction.. -Torsion Rear LSD..Will be changed out to Gaurd Transmission FULL LSD... Guard Transmission... Very Prominent in ALMS and Grand Am Racing -Steering is Rear Steer vs. Front Steer normally found on Subaru...so when you add camber....usually it toes' out the alignment...for general purposes...now. with the rear steer it should toe 'in'...sooo physical alignment will now become the norm at events...we'll see Purposed Mods: 2013 BRZ Limited (yes with all the goodies...for resale value later) Strano Performance KW Suspension 400lb front, 325lb rear Strano Performance Adjustable Swaybars various Kartboy bushings, Pully and sway bar links. Various other Whiteline Suspension Bushings... LCA, RCA, Etc 17x9 42 offset Wheels 245/40/17 Hankook R-S3's (Already have) 17x9 45 offset 2nd set of wheels 255/40/17 Dunlap Direzza z2 Frt Camber plates Guard Transmission Custom Mech LSD Stainless brake lines Motul Fluids That would Get me started... thoughts??? Sorry for the book Bill waiting in the wings.. ![]() ![]()

I'm going to subscribe to this thread.
I have plans of picking this up as soon as its available also. I also have plans to autocross it here locally though not through SCCA. There has been a bit of discussion between me and some other local gear heads about what class this will end up in and we're also thinking C-stock or lower considering the STi is A-stock and the WRX is B-stock. The BRZ is rear wheel drive and N/A. I'm liking how its going to pax. As far as build for autocross, obviously your looking at larger competition groups so you need it as prepped as you can. I'm going to run the first year stock to see how it handles before making changes. |

This is a lame duck thread. Know how I know? You listed James Wilson as your co-driver. We all know that guy is just a Forum Wars "TV racer" and overall hack with no measurable talent. And you stole his name to get attention. Really? Really.
Okay, not really. I keed, I keed! Looking forward to seeing how you guys make out with this. I tend to not be an early adopter, but I would have loved the challenge of being one of the first to figure things out. Good luck with the build, but wait until you actually get the car and start doing stuff before posting more. kthxbai and good luck. ![]() |

With the new Stock 'tire' class this year, thats a viable option...but still should be competitive whatever class its going to...I have 17x7 BBS option wheels...with half worn 235/40/17 RE01r's....which I will throw on initially..to get a good feel for the car... since the FR-S is going to have stiffer dampers and softer springs than the BRZ ..I would think the Scion will turn-in better than the BRZ because of that... again we'll see

I dunno about the 8k/8k spring setup, being a RWD car. You may wanna take a look into what other similar platforms are running (or maybe I'm way offbase and need to look myself!).
I think its awesome to have the support to get the car prepped straight away, and with your commitment to the season and beyond....I see success on the horizon! I'm going to call and setup speedtraps for James, so he'll get locked up in the slammer and you'll need a last minute co-driver!!! ![]() Jay |

I am with jay on the springs. Pretty typical s2000 / miata set up says stiffer in the front but neither of those cars have struts in the front either. So perhaps less of a spring rate differential.
I am so on the fence of trying to sell my 2011 wrx to get a BRZ. I was even thinking mt GTWORX bilsteins just might bolt on! As car enthusiasts I feel we are all obligated to buy this car as a thanks for a car company building something fun that doesnt cost more then a years salary. |

You're well on your way Bill.....
![]() What I personally suggest, is corner weight the car as is, then figure a stiffness increase that stays close to the same percentages. Use the year to dial it in and maybe even get it close enough to optimal for nats in Sept. Jay |

STR S2000's have .7F and .67R motion ratios, big front bar, small or no rear bar, but their spring rates seem to vary a lot more based on driver preference. Polling a few friends in STR showed a range of 600-1100F and 500-1000 rear. To me that says spring split isn't as big as the miata, but it's still 100ish lbs (before motion ratio) different. The lightest STR cars seem to hover around 2650, so you should be right there, or just under for weight. Not that I have any knowledge of RWD outside of FS Mustangs and STS Miatas, but personally I'd try something like 600F 700R (assuming the rear motion ratio is in the .7 range). Especially if you are going to throw a proper clutch pack diff in the back. The FSB is a bit of a mystery, but should be solved quickly by one of your "partners" ![]() I'm on the fence about this being an STR car. I think it would be a contender in STX with the WRX and RX8, but I think the lack of power in comparison to the S2k and front suspension design would be a pretty big hurdle to overcome. I'd put it on par with the NB miatas in STR. Still, good luck! I'll enjoy reading the progress/updates! |

.. from what I have Read, The OS Giken Rear Diff will put a push in the car upon turn-in ...so the rear springs were upped and solved the problem...I fully expect to have "Growing Pains" as with any new car... I can only hope that parts become easily accessable..and it becomes the Scalpel that I know it can be... Thanks again for the info...might have to contact the RWD MASTER...Mr Strano and see what he suggests.. ![]() Bill |

me thinks there is a Mis-print on the rear Brakes...should be 11.5 or 10.5..not 15.0
