Haven't been around modified cars much have we? A lot of these straight thru exhausts also have resonators that help deal with this issue. Go listen to an N1 Race and then an N1 Street (or better yet, compare it to any of the standard muffler exhausts such as Cobb, TurboXS, Stromung) and tell me you still think the N1 Race still sounds better and that the only difference you hear is the volume.
I've built more race cars than you'll ever drive, boss. Also, why are you talking resonators when the thread is about mufflers? Similar effect, but not the same. Mark W.

Absolutely. Try to be objective and think about the normal characteristics and tastes of someone who calls them rims and someone who calls them wheels.

I can make that easy for you.

"Rims":

"Wheels":

wheels and rims, whats the difference? wheels is with the tires but if someone says rims its pretty obvious that they are wrapped in tires.... i dont get how terminology defines whether a car is rice or not...

Wheels are the metal part. The entire wheel. This may or may not include the tire. "Rims" are the outer edges of a wheel and a word that has been bastardized by less intelligent folk to mean "wheel". That's where the judgement comes from.

Anyways, muffler deletes are still tasteless and classless.

Also, you're missing a lug nut.

I never meant for this thread to be so heated. I just wanted to see how this new engine sounded unmuffed. I'm currently looking for a new muffler, but I don't have any sound clips or anyones opinion to go off. That being said, with all the emission on this thing it's actually not crazy loud, I havent driven with it unbolted, but just throwing some revs at it, it's not much of a difference in volume from the flowmaster 40 series I had on an older Subie.

Seems to have a hint of that boxer rumble in there unlike the previous model. The 2012 does look like the exhaust manifold is a little on the uel side :P

Can you post a driving vid with an interior/exterior clip

I recently took off the muffler completely, just need to make a turn down with a flange on it. It's really rumbly and when you get to a cruising speed it's pretty quiet. I have some video of the interior but theres a lot of road noise from having so close to the windshield, I'll work on getting some better ones and an outside drive by

Have you decided on a muffler or exhaust yet? I'm eager to read about your results and how it sounds like.

I haven't decided on a muffler yet. Right now, I'm going to get a flange with a turn-down made. After reading exhaust theories and the fact that it's not crazy loud, I'll probably just keep it that way, but we'll see. If I do get a muffler, it's going to be a straight through design with some packing around it on the internals.

How bad is the rasp and gurgle without the muffler?

I was considering yanking the stock axle back off and fabbing something simple up with a dynomax bullet muffler or something similar to that. But if it doesnt sound bad without a muffler...

The rasp and gargle isnt bad at all. It only usually happens when I pull in to the garage and blurb the throttle.

is this really any different than all of us that have the Nameless Performance Axle Back? Other than the fact the exhaust is dumping under the car until you get a proper delete fitted up?

I get compliments on my NP delete, but then someone unbolts their mufflers which is essentially the same thing and they get hated on....weird.

I think it sounds awesome, similar to a WRX. Regardless of what you do to your exhaust/muffler, I'm interested to hear and see how it goes.

Noobie question, does all Subaru have that stock Unequal header length out is it equal? Just wondering about the sound. I don't care for power but one of the reason about getting a Subaru is that unique growl.

I didn't read anything in this thread, so if anyone posted this already then...oops?

A lot of people do this, I personally think it's a little tacky...but a way to do it to keep everything bolted together is to get a thick stack of washers and put them in between where you disconnected the muffler then bolt it back up.

My old legacy gt, straight pipes from the downpipe (welded on factory tips). Was a few cars ago, probably wouldn't do it again (was a cheap way for dual exhaust). I remember the drone was pretty bad at times.

If this is the 2.0 Sport you cannot see the exhaust at all from the back of the car (unless you get on the ground). There is no visible exhaust tip or bumper cut out for one.

Alright I finally heard how the exhaust sound with a catback no resonator and magnaflow muffler. I'll tell you it sounded good! I was at the dealer and a customer who got he's impreza a month ago pulled up and I heard he's exhaust thought it was a wrx, sure enough it wasn't. I can't wait to get mine. Sorry I was not able to take a video, I felt awkward asking the guy.

muffler delete is amazing.. some idiot said a muffler adds refinement to the sound?
a muffler muffles the sounds, do you understand the word muffler??

anyways... the stock mufflers are literally 45 lbs...
$75 for less weight, better sound? it's amazing
also.. it's not even that loud until you go WOT
i bet this delete is less loud compared to 90% of honda's with an aftermarket exhaust
