I've done it four times now. The first time is always the most stressful, but it's really not a difficult job. The only issue I would see would be if your headlamp is sealed with permaseal instead of butyl. You should check on here or HIDplanet to see if someone's done it for your year and has a write up.

One of the easier mods just time consuming, waiting and baking.

I've done quite a few headlight retrofits. It's definitely a mod for someone with patience no ocd.

Fixed my fuel leak, and wouldn't you know? My MPG's have drasticly improved.
Also changed oil and P/S belt. Need to check fluid as my pump has a bit of a whine.

Where was your fuel leak at? I think I've got one too and my combined mpg is (at most) 18.

It was a 2 fold leak that was a PITA to track down.

The fuel pump assy seal was bad which caused the leak, but I got my car tuned and the evap CEL was deleted so I had no idea where to start troubleshooting. The leak was around long enough to soak my charcoal canister, so I ripped my evap system out.. removed, inspected and replaced the fuel filler neck.. then replaced the gasket. Problem solved.

What makes you think you have a fuel leak? I have the fuel system section of the FSM commited to memory because of my issues

They are calling for 2 - 4 inches of snow so I finally bit the bullet and swapped into my winter shoes. Looking forward to playing in the snow tomorrow morning.

Do you smell it mostly when the car is cold ? I know they had a recall for that on my last wrx. For some reason subaru used a 2 inch piece of rubber hose with somewhat weak hose clamps to adjoin the fuel hardlines that run beneat the intake manifold. When its cold i guess the hardlines contract just enough for a small bit of fuel to leak out until the car is warm and the metal line expands enough to creat the seal again. I dont trust the local subaru dealership so i did it myself. Wasnt too bad but you did have to take a bunch of stuff off to get to the lines. I replaced the rubber and bought some of the nicer fuel line clamps and after that no more raw fuel smell.

Note to self: Do not fill gas tank first.

It varies, but it does do it when it's cold.

I'll look into that, but I've got bigger fish to fry. Hopefully I can fix my axle tonight.

It was a pain.. fuel system issues are almost as big of a PITA as electoral issues..only 1000x more dangerous.

How strong is the raw fuel smell?
Are there any CEL's?

I have 1300cc injectors and since I fixed my leak I smell no fuel, for what that's worth.

Do you top off your fuel tank when filling up?

How did your fuel pump assembly gasket look when you upgraded your fuel pump?

When was the last time you replaced your front O2 sensor?

Does the smell only happen when it's cold?

You can also inspect your fuel filler neck by removing the guard and see what the rust:metal ratio is. A quick search will bring up some awful pictures of rusted out fuel filler necks.

If you some how should be throwing a CEL but aren't, it could be anything from the gas cap to a valve riiight on top of the fuel tank I was sooo happy not to have to drop my tank

I know the 3G's have a better designed pump assembly but still..make sure the gasket is in good shape and in right!

I've got a cel that pops on and off every so often. I probably need a new front o2 sensor. I don't know when it was replaced last and I'm almost at 100k.

Read out the CEL if you can!

You can get a front O2 sensor on Amazon for $70 ~. PB Blast the old one for a few days and don't buy a cheap O2 Sensor socket. My car spent a few years in the north east so it was a PITA to get that sucker out.

I love PB blaster. Made my coils a much easier process

Once I get the axle fixed, ill take it to get the CEL read. It's probably a phantom misfire.

When fuel started pouring out as I was loosening the bolts I cranked them right back down again. Will try again tomorrow after a road trip, haha.
