Think about an umbrella in the wind, a little one just turns inside out and is annoying, a beach umbrella takes of in the wind, takes you with it and then goes tumbling down the beach and takes out three other people.

The larger the surface area to catch air the more force its going to apply to the object it is attached to.

SCIENCE!!!
At what speeds though? Thought the rs hoods were heavier? The amount that it wants to lift off would be miniscule and should make them "feel" better handling, if anything it would be the increased wright in the front end. I think u should drive down the street holding it and see how much lift u get.

Listen to this guy. He has done the math, graphs and spreadsheets to get to 200mph. Probably knows what's best for aerodynamics on a Subaru.

I wouldn't say all that much. I based may research around the land shark Sti. Which I know has done 198 mph mile pass. You can look them up. The rest of it is just a bunch of number crunching and formulas that have been around for years.

If your doing that, then I agree, but the rest of us won't take a turn faster then 80mph, rest is straight line till only 140mph or so

Agreed so I don't think the scoop size will make much or any difference to the aero of a car that is already a brick.

Nice to meet a few new faces at cars and coffee this morning. We got lucky and the weather held out. I'm glad I could get the new car out and drive.

just back from altoona, pa and the locals had a subie get together sat. 17 subies showed. the usual collection of wrx's and sti's. just one 2008+ though.

most of the crew drove hour plus to meet. two guys had custom paint...like $5k for the paint job. another guy had an immaculate bug eye...sparkling clean inside and out. built motor, wheels, etc and etc. havent seen any pics of that one yet. other pics at

good times.

Who has a 06/07 STI or WRX that will let me yank their scoop off and see how far off the base is in shape compared to the 04/05 STI?

I really dislike the huge 04/05 STI scoop.

I installed the aem wideband gauge earlier. Pretty nice, 14.3-14.9 at idle...Still need to figure out why I will randomly get a raw fuel smell from the drive side injectors. I usually only smell that in the winter. Can't visually see anything leaking from the fuel line near the A/C. And I don't always smell it, weird.

What is everyone's preferred place to get some paint touched up around Richmond? The rear bumper has a few scrapes that I want to get estimates for. Entire bumper shouldn't need a repaint, just some spot repair and then the paint blended out and bumper cleared again.
