Default Getting $2k & 98 impreza wagon for junk Wrx. (good idea?)

Tell me if this is what I should do? My 03 Wrx needed a new clutch & flywheel. Long story short it needed more than just that ...rear differential new head & valve gaskets. my mechanic who works for subaru says the cost to repair the car exceeds the value of it. With labor & parts approx $6k. We've made a verbal agreement not yet set in stone that he'll trade me one of his subaru imprezas plus 2k for my 03 Wrx.

Is this a deal I should follow through?

The car doesn't drive. He wants the engine & body panels etc.

That's up to you. we can't tell you if its a good deal based on a paragraph. what kind of situation are you in (monetary wise, lifestyle wise, needs wise, ect......) all will play a role.

Sounds fishy to me...depends on how much you trust the mechanic.

sounds like if you cant fix it yourself or know someone that will do it for you cheaper (like a relative thats a mechanic or somthing) then the deal might not be so bad, or the mechanic is telling you it needs more then what it does to A) get rid of one of his cars and B) get yours which he knows he could fix easy and make more profit on.

I would do both head gaskets, valve cover gaskets, rear diff and a clutch in my shop for less than $4000.00. How nice is the car? Wish you were closer I would love to trade you.

That doesn't sound right to me, mod maniacs price is right around what local shop around here would do if for . For curiosity sake, see what your dealership would charge and compare it to your mechanic.

Sounds like a scam. I am betting the rear diff and head gaskets are fine. Is your car overheating, does it have bubbles coming out of the coolant, is there water coming out of the exhaust, do you even have a check engine light on?
