Default getting $2k & 98 impreza wagon for junk Wrx. (good idea?)

Tell me if this is what I should do? My 03 Wrx needed a new clutch & flywheel. Long story short it needed more than just that ...rear differential new head & valve gaskets. my mechanic who works for subaru says the cost to repair the car exceeds the value of it. With labor & parts approx $6k. We've made a verbal agreement not yet set in stone that he'll trade me one of his subaru imprezas plus 2k for my 03 Wrx.

Is this a deal I should follow through?

The car doesn't drive. He wants the engine & body panels etc.

The mechanic is saying he found metal fragments Im the differential after changing the fluid. Meaning the gears are not meshing correctly therefore could cause it to break in the near future. It's also the reason why my clutch has worn down so quickly because the power isnt transferring to the rear wheels therefore creating excessive wear on the front drive train & clutch.

To add to that the head gaskets & valve gaskets are showing signs of oil leakage. He also mentioned traces of burnt coolant fluid in a white powder like substance in the turbo.

I'm in the AF on orders to Massachusetts next Wednesday from dover Delaware. Don't have much money & he's giving me a way out. It's not the best because Im losing too. But I need a way back to westover Massachusetts.

You're at DAFB? Right around the corner from me.

You have a guy in Dover looking at it?

The explanation of why the clutch wore out prematurely makes no sense to me.

It doesn't sound like the head or valve cover gaskets will stop the car from running either.

Did you drive it to the shop? Was it running fine and the clutch started slipping?

It just doesn't sound like a fair trade based on what you are describing. Just based on what I am reading here.

150000 miles and the car had to get towed there.

Because it wouldn't RUN, or because the clutch was slipping so bad that it wouldn't move?

If you need a way out, I guess a running car and 2K in your pocket isn't a bad deal.

Without seeing the car or more details about your problems with it, it's hard to say wether the guy wants the car and is making your problems sound worse then they are, or not.

If your engine, trans(clutch) and diff(s) are ****ed it sounds like the whole car is ****ed you might as well dump it and get what you can.
