Default 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Confirmed With 350-HP V6, 275-HP 2.0L Turbo

Quote:
Now that we know what the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe is going to look like, our speculation as to what will be under the hood can also end. Hyundai has officially announced that the new Genesis Coupe will come with a 2.0 TCI base engine and a direct-injection version of the Lambda 3.8. The 2.0L turbo will pack 275-hp while the 3.8L GDi will come with 350-hp – even more than the Genesis Sedan, which is rated at 333-hp.
Both engines will be offered with an eight-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual option. What is most impressive is that the V6 Genesis Coupe will pack more horsepower than the Dodge Challenger, Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro.
These details, while official, are for Korean-spec models. Official US specs won’t be announced until the Detroit Auto Show in January.

350 HP, this is just nuts.

The current Gen coupe engine is outstanding sounding and feeling. This thing will be a beast.

Reviews of the V6 were competitive with the 370Z before the power bump so it'll be interesting to see after it. It's too bad the curb weight is ~150lbs heavier than the Z (as it stands), hopefully there's at least some dieting done to the refresh.

9.87lbs per HP - Z
~10lbs per HP - updated Gen Coupe

IF you have ever driven the 2011 V6 Gen coupe, you know that that V6 is a sweet mill. It likes to rev and sounds glorious as it does. This is pure win. The only question is how potent is that 4 banger going to be, as now it is a viable performance option.

I was hoping it would come with a V8. But still pretty impressive.

Very nice.... 350 hp naturally aspirated, not too shabby. Hyundai keeps improving.

Wow the progression this car has made since its introduction, though I'll say I (so far) prefer the front end of the current coupe.

Pretty darn impressive. Have to wait and see if there is a new price bump as well. The old 2.0L turbo was a lump of crap, imo, that felt pretty darn slow and really boring. We will have to see how things feel with this new power level. I hope the manual transmission has been improved also, as that was one of the worse feeling/shifting transmissions I had come across in long time. Either way, the car now seems to offer some pretty impressive performance, whatever engine is under the hood. Definately would consider purchasing a Hyundai at this point. Well done.

Grr, where's the V8! Otherwise, nice V6. Wonder if the reviews this time around will pull in favor of the V6 again.

With Hyundai putting something like this out, the FR-S is going to have to be very competitive price wise if it's going to succeed.

My only complaint with the gen coupe was the fact that the back seat couldn't fit anyone above 5' 3" lol otherwise the v6 was a blast..glad I didn't get one though because I'd be kicking myself if I saw this!

The Coupe is bigger than a Z, and with a back seat.

BRZ is not in the same demographic as this car any more than a corvette is in the same catagory as the miata.

The BRZ will weigh 2600 lbs. That is probably 500 lbs less than the Gen coupe..

totally different feel of a car.

I think that if Hyundai doesn't completely **** the ECU this time around, they have a shot.

For those of you just joining us, you still can't really tune a Gen Coupe, despite all of Hyundai's promises to the contrary.

Edit: Just did some reading about tuning the Genesis coupe and you can tune it, you just have to go to one of the tuning facilities that forked over the $6,000 to buy the VeoCOM that lets you modify the tune (Speed Force Racing/TurboXS/Beyond Redline/PTuning/Piranha Racewerks ) and get custom tuned there. Or buy the canned tunes.

Yes, and?

Doesn't change the relevance of power to weight
