Lol! Great use of the forum!

Back to car things... DBA 4000 slotted rotors or blanks again? Issue i'm having is that my brakes are getting "warm" when i'm running auto-x. During one of the last auto-x's I ran a worker came up to me and said that as I slammed on the breaks before a big turn, he could see flames shooting out of my wheels. My only issue with DBA 4000's are that they are over kill for DD use, But their longevity should be good since i'm not constantly smashing on them, right?

Evan from the sounds of it your #1 issue will be pads. You were running HPS's right? A rotor is only gonna help so much...

I made it through the storm. Gas is the issue these days.

really... i know a few folks that are stupid fast and thats what they run. I also have HP+ on my forester and have been running them on my wrx for about 4+ years now. A good friend down here runs on a national level and doesnt have issues running HP+'s on his 4pot/2pot set up. every time I see his fozzy, his rotor are blue, I mean blue.

With out seeing you drive, Id say your a bit too hard on those brakes... Are you experiencing fade?

Are you sure the person wasnt just a n00b and never saw someone push it? Ive seen HP+ spark/flame many times.

I get a little brake fade and a nice blue colored rotors. The main thing I'm getting is really high temps that's burning up my brake grease. I'm sure there was flame, I'm not worried about the flame, just dissipating heat better. The blank rotors are wearing out faster than the pads.

correct, you get a cookie. That's the trade-off between cheap rotors and expensive. Also the expensive ones look cool and say "hey, look at me, I have sweet slots so I'm faster than you because racecar." That being said I have DBA 4000s

I've had a few times where the HP+ have failed to deliver at some of the longer courses. Plus I actually got a solid bit of smoke at that corvette event last year so I'm going to something better next, not sure what. I think it comes down to driving style and I'm hard on brakes to make up for sloppy lines, too much power and poorly planned braking points.

hey everyone if any of you plan to come to NYC any time soon dont take the battery tunnel

in other news I did a track day last month at njmp and had an absolute blast. my brakes need some upgrading though as I got some pretty nasty fade. Hope all are doing well.

Chocolate chip?

I think the HP+ pads are fine for what I need, the fade isn't dramatic. No smoke from them, just the dust catching on fire from high temps. I'm just looking for which is the best solution for rotors in my case, I can turn a blank blue half way through a pad. Is it worth it to dissipate heat with slotted and pay more to have them last, or just cheap out and go through blanks with extra grease every year or less.

they dba will handle higher temp but you'll still turn the rotors blue. it may take longer or it may not, they just won't wear as quickly and I'm sure slots may help a bit but not like they used to. rotors used to be drilled to remove a buildup of gases that formed between the pad and the rotor which would reduce your friction to nil. The slots are better than drilling because they don't reduce your pad to rotor surface area as much. In either case pad material isn't death in a can these days so the function isn't the same.

STig, I dare you to go swimming in that.

Is anyone going to be in town over thanksgiving? Brendan and I were thinking about making a trip to Vestal to get our Ale House fix. Anyone interested in joining? Probably Friday or Saturday night.

Sorry Sean, turbo cars only.
