Yep, still here. Just nit checking in as much. You still need a dent guy ? My main guy has changed his model a bit and dies mostly hail damage and dealer stuff. I can call him If you like. I haven't been posting as it reminds me I have no fun car. I get to drive some at work though. Been an ATS 3.6 L as of late. 321 chp and 3400 pounds . Like an Sti or Evo hp/wt. Handles almost as good and comfy to boot.

All of a sudden yesterday I start hitting only 10 psi or so in 3rd/4th gear. 2006 WRX VF39 Cobb 93 octane map for now. Stock BCS. Was hitting boost targets (~16psi) for weeks beforehand (setup installed like 6 weeks ago).

No obvious leaks. Checked Learning View tonight and my IAM was 0.0000

I reset the ECU and went for a short drive to see what happened. When I got back IAM went back to 1.0.

1.) Am I safe to drive it if I stay out of boost?
2.) Other than boost leak, what should I be looking at? Heatshield causing unnatural knock events, bad BCS?

Let's hope it's false knock. If this happens again (IAM drops) though, I'd do a compression test...

Had new headgaskets installed about 6 weeks ago at the same time as the VF39, STI TMIC, walbro, new fuel filter, "adjusting" of the air pump system.

I had like 21 in the knock sum for a 5 minute drive tonight. I haven't logged a lot over time but I always recall that sum being in that range for a similar drive.

Driving to WV for work in the morning, guess I'll take the laptop and periodically check the Learning View and reset ECU if the IAM drops below 0.6.

Yeah, my lower door is wrinkled. It should be fairly easy, just pop off the door panel and roll the window up and it should be right there. I'll PM you my contact info, if you could forward, it would be much appreciated!

The IAM is dropping to save your engine from detonation. And you want to reset it so it goes through all that knocking again?

Also, you really think that a knock sum of 21 is normal for a 5 minute drive?

Why the headgasket install on an 06? Seems a bit premature doesn't it?

How can you use years as the time to do headgaskets? Maybe he has drives a lot and has put over 100k on the car. Maybe one was leaking. Why not ask these questions before assuming there wasn't a solid reason for doing it.

I'm not doubting there wasn't a solid reason for doing it. I suspect the engine blew its headgaskets prematurely... Subaru headgaskets (after the debacle in the late 90s) are really REALLY good.

But, fair point. So how many miles did you have on the engine when the headgaskets were replaced? Why did you get them replaced?

Also, about the knock sum, if most of it is during very low load stuff, then it's probably not an issue.

125k on it. Starting overflowing the expansion tank in high boost situations. The gaskets were leaking internally. New headgaskets + ARP studs were put in.

I did fill up at GetGo in Glenshaw the other day.

I only reset the ECU last night once. Made it down 30 to Chester WV this morning with no issues. Due to the reset I think I may have hit 5psi once or twice, but generally I was trying to drive like somebody's mom.

That knock sum was right after I reset, so it was low load driving.

Planning on checking IAM when I get offsite, won't reset it until I get my hands dirty at home.

Thanks for all advice....

dayum Jesse and Vern, you guys called it!

Class action lawsuit? 93 octane not as advertised?

http://www.cantonrep.com/news/x14337...ffects-drivers
Looks like Giant Eagle is no stranger to fuel **** ups.

http://www.wpxi.com/news/news/local/...asoline/nPCmN/

But if the engine is tuned so much on the ragged edge that less than 1 octane point causes it to go into limp mode, then I feel that is not right for a street car.

Honestly that's the first question I ask when someone local has crap mileage, or low boost, or misfire codes. Getgo is brutal. Don't ever use them in a turbo car.

They are beyond poor quality. Poor quality will still hang your IAM in the midrange. It takes a special level of crap to get all the way to zero. I'd bet there's water or some other crap in it. I doubt it's just a single octane point.

I recommend a bottle of Heet and run it down to halfway without getting into boost. Top off at BP.

I have never gotten gas at GetGo, and only use Sheetz gas in dire emergency. I try to stick to "real" stations.

With my car and all the data logging I did across several years, I found that BP was the most reliable around me. Sunoco was ok but not quite as good. Getgo is total crap, and sheetz was ok in the winter.

Kind of subjective, I know, but getgo was the only one that dropped my IAM consistently, Sunoco and sheetz would get the occaisional knock event that just didn't happen with BP. So I tuned it on the Sunoco, and ran BP as much as possible.

My car now will adjust itself for 89 and even 87 octane at the expense of mileage and power. I still run 93, but did try getgo once and it dropped my mileage from around 17.5 to 15.5. It's reliably crap. Avoid it.
