So I go get my car tuned, everything is working well. The ecu is letting us flash it and read it. All of a sudden the ecu stops letting us write to it or read. It wouldn't matter if he flashed it with a stock sti rom right? So now I have to take the ecu out to tactrix so they can do their bench work on the ecu. Any thoughts????

The ecu also was not reading 12 volts but clearly there was 12 volts.

Well I bought the car two months ago. When I lock the key automatically from the switches inside and try opening it with the keys outside, the alarm comes on. Then I have to turn the car on and off 3 times to set it off. As far as I know, its not stolen or had been. It is however a repo car.

There is some wiring beneath the car, just looks like it use to have a system in it.

But its just awkward how we could read/write to the ecu and all of a sudden it couldn't. He checked the throttle response, intake temp, etc. And there was no sign of any voltage from the battery.

For the EDM's the wrx/fxt ecu's are quite different to the STI.

The STI has more or less the same maps defined but usually several more columns and/or rows with cells.

I.e. (at least for me) you can use the values from STI in your own ROM but flashing a STI rom will be asking for trouble.

What exactly did you attempt before the situation you are in now?

Cheers,
Patrick

Hrm... well my tuner flashed a base stage 2 sti map into mine.... you think that could of been the issue?

Cause he flashed his base map once and the car wouldnt start. It would crank over but just didnt start. Then the air/vaccum blower thingy by the battery kept coming on even when i turned the car off. The only way to shut it was to disconnect the battery.

You were stuck in diagnostic mode. Likely bricked PCM same thing happened to me when my flash blue screened and like an idiot I turned the key off.

I dont know if he just forgot that its just a base wrx or not. Do you think that could be the reason why it caused the ECU to lock up, where it couldnt be reflashed? Thanks alot.

What do you mean by "PCM"? And I noticed that a pop-up screen came up telling us not to turn the car off. Then we waited and then he just told me to turn it off. How did you resolve your issue? Thanks

Update:

So doing more and more research through forum after forum I have given in that my 2006 WRX ecu is bricked.

Why? When the pop up screen comes up and say "Do not turn the car/ignition off" Please don't turn it off! Save yourself time and a headache.

Now I am in the proccess of finding someone in the Phx, AZ area who can unbrick my ecu.

I have no experience with tuning what so ever. So do not flash a sti rom into your wrx ecu. Even if its 32bits.

even though both ecu are 32 bit.
you should have not flashed a sti map onto
a wrx ecu.

but i guess you learned your lesson.

i would also find a new tuner..

He is a very good tuner and I have respect for him. Might of just been a bump in the road. I just thought he'd know my car was a wrx and not a sti.

So he sent the ecu to tactrix so they could do their bench work on it.
My car will be done thursday with a tune finally. Hopefully i will be making more than 350whp.

If he can't tell the difference then he can't be that great tuner.........it's pretty obvious the difference by looks and is probably an important detail to know if tuning the car. Just saying...........

That doesn't prove anything. Especially since I can easily flash an 02 JDM STI ROM to my 02 USDM WRX if I wanted too. The issue in that post was flashing a 32bit ROM to a 16 bit ROM.

Is your tuner paying to unlock the ecu that he screwed up? Did you get this revolved?
