I have a rockford fosgate 4ch amp mounted in the dash behind the factory head unit, and I get white noise at low volume levels 1-4 maybe. It goes quiet when you change from CD, FM, AUX, so it might just be the head unit. Its not enough to really bother me.

The stock radio sounds great now with Loud off and through mode, with the 4ch amp and Polk DXi 650's.

probably just the amp, but I am happy with it. no more white noise than the Premeir 740MP i have in my old car.

plus i didn't have to run wires under the seat

I'm sure it's user error, but I can't get anything out of the above.

The loudness works, just not the fixed EQ.

Base 2012 WRX.

Tried system off and on. Should the key be in ACC, or actually running, or does that matter?

Thanks ahead of time.

With the radio off, hold down the two numbers with one hand and then push the tune once with your other hand. Should work

Thanks!

^ I had it in ACC, turned it off and as soon as the display went blank I held the two buttons and pushed Tune do a few times. You might just be slightly out of sync pushing the buttons at the same time.

BINGO, thanks! I just got it to work. Seemed like it responded the 2nd time each time.

Now to tweak...

Thankfully, I too discovered this thread today and tried the settings described here. (2013 Impreza Premium 4 door sedan w/CM621UB-HU). I much prefer the flat response to the highs and lows associated with the original settings. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

New question: Has anybody discovered a hidden menu that can tweek the BT mic? My end sounds ok, but people I speak to say my voice sounds muffled. It may just be the nature of the beast. If so, I can live with it, but if it has some adjustability, that would be nice.

Thanks to OP, I've had my WRX for 9 months and could not for the life of me figure out why the BT audio sounded OK but the FM radio was such crap.

Thanks to wondras and JohnNevets for this info! I have a 2011 WRX with the CZ624U1 unit. While playing around with the mic test (2+4+cd), you can turn the volume (left) knob and the display shows "HF Volume". It can be adjusted from 0-14 and you should be able to hear it through your speakers when you talk into the BT mic. If you leave it alone for about 5-10 seconds, it will display "BT" on the left. I had to turn mine up all the way and be around 2 inches from the mic before it picked anything up. What did come through the speakers was greatly distorted. It looks as if the mic amplifier either works or it doesn't. There must be a huge quality issue with that board that they don't know about or don't care. I'd like to replace it, but the radio is to awful that I'd rather replace the whole head unit.

Thanks everybody for playing around with this and keeping the thread updated. It's been fun to read and I'm truly in awe of the work Wondras has put into analyzing this stock head unit. If you don't already have a job that involves reverse engineering electronics, I think you should look into it.

Wirechild, I wounder if that would work for adjusting some of the other menu's. I'll have to give it a try when I get some time.

It doesn't appear to stick with the setting. At least I haven't found a way to save it. I tried pushing various buttons and a few random combinations, but nothing. In fact, I had a hard time going back to the HF Volume setting. It would hang on "MIC Test".

Do you think you are adjusting the mic or the speakers when doing that test? I'll give this a shot on the 621 HU as soon as I get a chance.

I think it is just the mic. The HF Volume only goes to 14. Too bad it didn't just go to 11!

Also, each time I put it in Mic Test mode, the HF Volume would start at 8.

So anyone tried this on the 2013 WRX with the standard HU? And presumably it can be put in through EQ and loudness off. Does it mean I can just use the JBL MS-2 as my processor? Or do I need to get some kind of in-line equalizer?

Well, I tried it this morning before I left for work. The sequence does work on the 2013 standard HU, (CM 621 UB). But it did seem to get stuck there and I had to shut the car off to get it out of where it was stuck. I didn't have a chance to try any calls today though, so I have no idea if it did anything or just performed some kind of test. Based on what others have told me, it would be nice to put a little gain into the mic over the stock setting.

With the mic test on if you turn the volume knob it adjusts the mic gross gain levels. Then you can fine tune during a call with the the fine gain control.

When on a call you can access the the mic gain from the normal menu. This adjustment is just in smaller increments adjusting the bt mic gain. From the test mic control you are able to adjust the mic gain with larger increase between each setting.

So, when not on a call, 2+4+CD gets you to the mic test segment, but are we really adding gain to the mic or just increasing the speaker volume?

Do you know why we get stuck in that menu and are unable to exit out without turning off the car? Should we be getting stuck there or is there a proceedure to exit and save settings?

When you talk about the "fine gain" when on a call what are you refering to? (I understand what fine gain is. What I don't know is how you're accessing it.)

When on a call, the volume control, (either the swc or knob), increases the volume of the speakers, AFAIK.

The only real way to tell if there is gain being introduced into the mic would be for people we speak to to tell us it has improved. Being the weekend, I have a bit more time to experiment.

Not trying to be a smart a**. I'm really asking.

I am assuming that from the mic test page it didn't just increase volume of the mic due to the rapid response in feedback that was received along with the level of distortion from the mic and not just volume. While on call I accessed the mic gain from my steering wheel controls. If I remember right, you can adjust the gain with the track select, up or down, on the steering wheel. During the adjustment the HU will actually show "mic gain" if I remember

I was on a call with my wife when I found it. I felt like the old Verizon commercial, "can you hear me now." The gain on the mic is a little funny and the factory doesn't leave you much room for improvement, I kept running into issues of either to much road noise or to little gain and you're screaming at the mic.

I will apologize if I used any of the wrong terms, I'm not an audiophile or an electronic engineer or even an engineer of any sort. I'm just another owner looking to get the most out of his car and trying to help others get the same.

Oh, and no idea why we get stuck on the mic test page, happened to me too.

Track select huh. Sweet! I'll give that a try. I discovered you can mute the mic while on a call by accident as well. You hit the talk switch on the steering wheel.
