Luckily for you the best all around handgun is also one of the cheapest

Glock 22/23 depending on hand size

I have Glocks, Springfield XDms, Colt 1911s, Sig Sauers, Rugers, etc. in my collection. Guess which one I carry and keep loaded next to my bed?

Go to a range and shoot everything they rent. Try M&P too

I would also recommend you take the NRA 8 hour basic course and a even a couple tactical classes, i.e. retaining, low light, if you enjoy that kind of stuff. Well worth the money. There is a place in Belleville that offers classes. Also hire a coach at the range to get you started so you don't pick up any bad habits. Always ask the older guys at the range questions. The knowledge you pick up far outweighs being annoyed by hearing the same Vietnam stories 100 times over

You going to BA or Shore shot?

Welcome to the shooting world!

Ive officially gotten my FID since lasting posting here and am now in the process of getting my purchase permits...(didnt do them all at once bc i heard you get the stuff faster by doing it separate. got my FID in just under 2 months.)
Ive got some stuff picked out already and just wonder what you guys think. maybe you can sway me from one gun/caliber to another. heres the list of stuff id get right off the bat:
1: Sig Sauer P229 9mm OR Walther P99 9mm
2: Springfield 1911 Mil-Spec .45ACP (friend said hed sell me his. it was a
compulsive purchase with about 100 rounds shot thru it he said)
3: Ithaca Model 37 Defense Tactical 12 gauge w/ pistol grip and adjustable
stock with built in recoil system

Theres also that range called RTSP in Randolph NJ. they have a bunch of classes and do live scenario lessons with live Simunition. im thinking about doing those and the Utah carry class.

Also there a place called Luciano's in west paterson, just off route 46 on mcbride ave. its right behind the car wash and pizza hut. Theyve just opened and are in the process of building a 19 lane indoor range.

The best thing to do is to go and try to at least handle each handgun you are interested in. If you can shoot it, even better.

The Sig 229 is a great pistol, same with the full-size 226 (slightly longer/heavier).

There are so many 1911's you can get it's crazy, from just under 400 to the sky's the limit. A lot of good reviews on the Mil-Spec (bottom rung Springfield 1911 now that the GI is discontinued), doing a F2F, no-tax, no-NICS sale for your friends used one outta make for a great price.

Can never go wrong with a pump 12-gauge. I don't know if you can swap barrels on the Ithaca (I assume you can), but might be worth looking at a 30/32" barrel if you are ever interested in shooting clays (or find a used pump/semi specifically for that).

Only thing you're missing is a .22LR (pistol and/or rifle) for plinking!

In my interest in the P229 im thinking about getting it in the 22lr and then just buying the sig barrel x-change kits. with those i can get a 9mm, .40sw, or .357 sig. its basically getting 2 guns for the price of one

FYI, Cabelas has an ammo sale going on right now. I just bought 1k rounds of .223 for under something around $275 shipped. I've been looking for a good deal on .223/5.56 for a while now so I jumped on this one. Hopefully it's decent for plinking and brown bear/moose hunting.

Do you have your P2P yet? If so, just make sure they don't expire by December or that your CLEO is willing to extend them. If you don't have your P2P, I would suggest you apply now as some townships take much longer than the 30 days it's supposed to take.

Best ones out are the ones that use a Simplex lock. There's a video on Youtube that shows how easy it is to bypass any of the ones you see out on the market such as Gunvault, both biometric and push button units. Fort Knox has pistol boxes that are around $160-200.
