Staying on topic....

I just picked up a Saiga in .308 Winchester with wood furniture (IZ-138). Not a bad looking rifle considering it's built on the AK platform:



I haven't taken it to the range yet. It's supposed to be very accurate for an AK. I'm probably keeping it in sporting configuration with iron sights, no optics.

Whad'ya think?

I pretty much bought a new handgun and decided to not go for a 1911. Instead I opted for a Walther P99AS in 9mm. Only problem right now is im still waiting for the background check to be cleared. Theres a 3-4 day delay everywhere anywhere you purchase right now bc the NICS phones lines went down i heard... Pics will come soon enough.

Any thoughts on a LWRC M6A2 SPR? Planning on ordering one up (it is a 14-16wk wait right now unfortunately ).

I've had bad experiences with LWRC's customer service, but if you want a comparable rifle in the same price range, see if you can snag one of Larue Tactical's and stick a nice comp on it.

My BB guns, lol! My new fascination with AR's. Newest addition to my older Bushmaster AR15. SigSCM 556 will get a Nikon scope, magpul DE trim outfit, folding or fixed mil-spec tube and stock being decided right now. All watered down versions in NY but hoping I don't get snagged at the range with my mods. So far so good though but any dress up ideas on the sig?

I've never used the slide release on the pistol other than to lock the slide back. You want to use gross muscle movements rather than fine ones.

Yeah, the mag release is pretty bad. Almost as bad as the HK45 ones....you can't even reach it with your thumb without shifting your grip/using your index finger.

And I agree with this, that's how I train as well (I f'd up above, meant magazine release). Which is why I'd refer to it as the slide lock, which it's intended for, rather than a release.

And like you said in regards to muscle memory, etc, my two handguns both have (virtually) identical location of parts, so the muscle memory for mag release, slide lock, lack of external safety etc. is there. The Walther would F all that up for me.

I hear you on that one. Loved shooting in the heavy metal class whenever my bud would lend me his M1A1, hated getting used to the 1911's grip angle after months of shooting the Glock platform. Always end up with me wondering all my shots are in the B zone rather than the A's.

Any recommendations for a first semi-auto. Always had revolvers mostly for hunting. Looking for .40s&w or .45 mostly for some target shooting upstate and to carry when we are inthe woods on the ATVs, etc.

Reasonable price, yeah I love tht Kimberly 1911, but I do not have $1200 right now. Thanks.

^^I love my S&W M&P .45 compact. Good size, holds enough, and my desantis IWB holster has a slot where I carry a second loaded mag anyway.



Posted a picture for another member when he asked about concealment. Here it is, very easy to do so, and that secondary mag is in there too.

How far do you intend to shoot, how many rounds are you okay with in a mag, do you sweat a **** ton, corrosive body chemistry?, do you take apart your guns often to clean? are you okay with punching out roll pins? what's your budget? are you MIL/LEO? Do you reload your own ammo?

Target stuff in the fields, so let's say max 30 yards for pistols. I sweat for sure. no problem taking guns apart to clean, enjoy it. Never done roll pins. Let's say $600 neighborhood. No MIL/ LEO, no reload. Thanks.

Ones I've tried, highest recommended to lowest:
Glock 35:
Lightweight, long sight radius (more accurate, basically), double stacked, super easy to COMPLETELY disassemble and clean, but has a partially supported chamber. You may not like the grip angle. Trigger job are very simple to do. Polygonal rifling makes it easier to clean out the carbon too. CHEAP magazines.

M&P40:
Lightweight, standard sight radius, double stacked, easy to do basic cleaning, goddamn pain in the ass to punch out roll pins to clean anything in the lower frame. Feels amazing in the hand, comes with interchangeable backstraps. Trigger sucks even by Glock standards, and to upgrade to the APEX kit requires that you punch out the rear sight, which is a HUGE pain in the ass. Will cost over $200 to get the trigger feeling like a $20 Glock trigger. In stock form you CANNOT feel the trigger reset. Near fully supported chamber. Stupidly designed magazine release, and slide serrations gets gunked up real easy. $50 mags...may be had for $20 if bought on sale.

Rock Island Armory/Armscor 1911:
Heavy, only holds 7 rounds (8-10 if you get Cobra/McCormick/Wilson mags), feels amazing in the hand, perfect recoil motion, gets surface rust easily in the summer, requires lots of maintenance (multiple types of lube for different parts), if the extractor ever breaks you'll need to get another one "tuned" by a gunsmith. But it's a 1911, which is ****ing awesome.

Beretta 96:
Crappy trigger, heavy frame, pain to clean. Hated everything about it.

dont change your grip at all. just drop either your middle finder or trigger down onto the mag release lever. its ambidextrous

Sorry Jim, but I'm gonna call BS on that. Take a video showing you not shifting your grip to drop a mag. No way in hell that's gonna happen without you rotating the pistol.

That method sounds terrible, and goes against every shred of muscle memory I have.
