I'm a member over the other side at Shore Shot. Most of my handguns are .45acp and don't get much love. I shoot .40s&w a lot (my primary -- glock 23 carry trigger). And I have a 9mm barrel for plinking

Did not know about Manahawkin

I've been meaning to head over to Brick Armory to track down a m70 fixed stock

Also looking into buying a low grade M1 garand from CMP or Orion.

I shoot long guns at Westchester sportsman center

Tri-state convoy to Cabela's in PA or CT!

What municipality are you in? There are several organizations fighting the good legal fight in NJ and the pressure has dropped the wait times and additional requirements in many towns. If you don't want to mention your town then go research your town on the NJCSD forums (or njgunforums.com), the wait might not be as bad as you'd think

As long as you can legally own firearms and those firearms are legal within your state... what's the big deal?

I wouldn't post pics up of my safes and/or lock boxes simply because you don't know what sort of sketchy people will be reading your posts. This is a public site after all.

Get home safe, brother. If you come back with any extra gear, I'd gladly take them off your hands.

Question... if you get pulled over while driving, do you immediately tell the officer that you have a firearm on you or in the vehicle or do you notify the officer only if it comes up?

Depends on what your getting pulled over for I guess. If it's just for a head light being out I wouldn't put if you have the gun on you and the cop is going to ask you to step out of the vehicle. Then I would let him/her know.

And if you have the fire arms card on you then I don't see an issue about it. If your in jersey the gun has to be in a case it can't be chilling in the open like on your passenger seat.

It would be the right/ courteous thing to do..but it might be asking for trouble as well..if you were pulled over for a moving violation or anything violation and you mentioned you have a firearm in the car/ trunk he will most likely ask for purchasers ID / permits. He if he wants to inspect the firearms he might handcuff you for his own safety so he's not taking a chance with you handling the weapon..a possibility..he might just look at your papers ..two ends of the spectrum

I go to Shore shot right now, but will probably switch to brick after my membership is up.

You have to be careful in NJ. You do NOT need a permit to own a gun in NJ contrary to popular belief. If you legally bought a gun while living in another state you don't need a permit. You only need the permit for BUYING guns/ammo in the state. The permit you are issued is a PURCHASERS permit, nothing else. The problem is our cops are morons, and don't understand the law. If you live out of NJ do NOT bring a gun into this state for any reason except a sanctioned event (ie competition). You may legally transport a firearm through the state but you cannot stop in the state for the night for any reason, as it would then be considered a destination and you'd be committing a felony.

Now PA is little easier, if you are going to and from a PA range, even from out of state it shouldn't be a big deal.

I'd recommend all you NJ gun guys to sign up on www.njgunforums.com . Good place for info etc.

New York does not require that you tell the officer that you have a pistol on you. I have yet to be pulled over while carrying but if I do I would hand him my permit with my license and let him know where it is. If he's a good cop he will appreciate that. If he's a jerk he will remove the pistol from the holster, clear it, and put it in the trunk. If you plan on carrying in this screwy state you need to do a ton of reading on the laws.

Last i heard not too many carry permits given out in NY around here. Less then 2%, i think. I would not carry because i imagine the cops will not be too happy with you.

I know some people carry when they go to a range or when they are transporting guns in a car (like for hunting), but i am not sure what a cop would do.

Also i would be careful about tellingpeople about your guns on the web. Criminals like to steal guns.

My county is a "will issue" county and the only option is full carry. It takes a while but as long as you clear the back round stuff your approved. NYC and westchester are the worst. Good luck getting a carry there.

Yeah certain counties give full carry right off the bat. I'm really trying to find a place to live in CT so I can get out of goddamn NY with its ridiculous taxes and idiotic gun laws.

carry is almost impossible in westchester unless you prove you carry massive amounts of value or money...so that eliminates 99% of the population, i looked into it, not worth it

There is no such thing as "pre-ban" in NJ.
