Default Link 'problem' thoughts...

Ok, so I have had my Link installed for all of one day. I'm running Jay's base map, and loving the power and throttle response increase over my old stage-4 Unichip.

What I'm not loving, are the intermittent yet complete fuel cuts. I say fuel cut, because here's what happens:

Was driving briskly for about 30 minutes. All of a sudden I lose power. When I touch the gas, the car dies. I pull over, it idles for a few seconds then the motor stalls. I key-off, then on to accessory, listen to pump prime, then start car. It starts and runs completely fine for another 10 minutes, then does exactly the same thing. This time I was just cruising along slowly since the previous loss of power made me a little nervous.

Is this 'normal Link behavior'? It's a serious question. I dig the performance, but I drive 100 miles a day and while driveability is not a major concern, stalling at 80mph on C-470 is. I bought this used, so its possible (likely) that it's an old firmware revision. One last thing; I have a MIL eliminator in the rear O2 which I plan on removing ASAP. No chance that this could be causing the Link to act fruity?

Thanks,
-Pace

Does Jay or David have this problem? Having it go out on you while driving on the freeway must be quite the thrill...

On a separate note, I'm looking forward to TXS's release of the UTEC (there are pictures in the FFI forum). Hopefully that will be the right mix of stock driveability and tunable power.

Jay just PM'd me tonite to say that he and David are experiencing a similar issue when running accessories such as A/C (which I was not when it happened to me). They are investigating, and I am trying to get more info as it does at least superficially sound like a related problem.

My curiosity is peaked as to why only the three of us have experienced this issue with the fuel pump signal.

I think Jama has this problem as well. He hasn't said if he looked into the fuel pump problem for a possible cause.

Yah Jay and I have been looking into this problem for a bit now. Led us to install fuel pressure gauges. Hopefully Jay and I will go out tonight to monitor current and voltage being pulled through the power line to the fuel pump. My guess, as of right now, is that when cruising you are running the lower duty cycle voltage signal to the fuel pump = more than stock levels of current being pulled through the wire = gets too hot which reduces conductivity just enough to make the fuel pump voltage circuit (or fuel pump) die "temporarily" until the car is restarted.

Just a hair brain wild goose chase idea of mine. Will keep you updated.

Just curious are you running the Walbro or some other pump?

If you didn't see my other post; I'm running the Walbro (342).

The car was fine on my 50 mile commute to work this morning, which consists of 20 miles of twisties and 30 miles of highway cruising.

I think your theory is good. I was wondering yesterday if more people had not experienced this problem because it is specific to the Walbro-Link setup.

Have you gotten to the point where you can pretty much trigger the problem 'at will' ?

We haven't reached that point yet. We have a basic idea of the conditions that it needs to be replicated, but when we duplicate those, it never happens. I think the ECU pixies are messing with us.
