Honestly it wouldn't be too hard. You could just solder a couple of wires to the contact points on the fusebox, or even a modified fuse so as to avoid modifying the fuse box itself. Wire that to a button and attach it to the dash somewhere as a hardpoint and you're all set. Maybe wire in a fuse on the path just for safety too.

Exactly what I was thinking but I haven't looked down there recently to even see where this fuse is at

It would be extremely easy. I think that modifying a fuse so as to not modify the car itself is the best idea but the area is very accessible. I think I could probably pull the fuse with my hands, if not a pair of pliers will get it out in a second. It's pretty obvious as to which one it is too. Where you would mount the switch is my question. However, I don't know how good an idea a switch is, because we don't yet know the effect pulling the fuse would have on the car while it is running (effective to hitting the switch on purpose or by accident. I'd rather not damage the ECU for some stupid mistake like that.

wouldn't be any different than if the fuse blew while driving

i am thinking of putting the switch in the unused switch holder near the VDC button

I suppose not, though I wonder how it would interpret it (the ecu) and go about disabling and enabling it. Plus, surging the ECU with power when it's on with a reconnected fuse might not be a good idea, I've heard this may damage ECU systems on autos where people hotwired a switch to disable AWD when the handbrake was pulled. If it was up to me, I wouldn't enable or disable it at all unless the car was fully turned off.

I'm thinking it is safe to disable when driving, like I said the ecu would view it the exact same way as if the fuse blew.

I won't re-enable until I shut it down, chances are if I disable it I am planning on having fun for the rest of my drive.

Found this bypass switch
http://blueox.com/Uploads/AppGuides/BX88272.pdf

Originally it's used for disabling fuses for towing behind an rv and what not. It costs $70 which is crazy. So just take a look at the pic and read the instructions. Should be pretty simple to make.

I made a switch to disable that 7.5 fuse.
I used an inline fuse holder attached one end into one side of the empty fuse slot, and attached another wire in the other side. Then I put the other ends to a switch and viola. I kinda forgot to take pics, but it's so simple. I started making a video but my phone was not cooperating. As stated earlier, once you disable the fuse, just step on the brake and it shuts the vdc stuff off. To enable the vdc again, flip the switch and turn off the car and restart.

I would recommend using the GTC CT6100 atm fuse connector for a final install.
http://www.gtc.ca/EN/CT6100_EN.html you can find it on amazon.com shipped is about $12 but you get 3 sizes. I used a toggle switch with a light on it, but it really does no good, considering every time you hit the brake it turns he light on and off. The lights on the dash should be an even better reminder that it's on and off anyway.

I think it was a different abs fuse, that disabled a lot more than abs, vdc, hill assist, and cruise. This is the right fuse (7.5) under the dash.

Awesome! I don't really desire to use this for fun, but if I were to get stuck in mud/snow this would be very much needed.

I cut a ring connector and filed it to match as much as I could to the fuse. Better Option is the GTC fuse connector

These are the lights that come on when you flip the switch and apply the brake.
You also lose cruise control, but you don't need it anyway when this is activated.

Inline fuse, one end to fuse slot, other side to switch (RED). All black wire is straight from the switch to the fuse slot.

Left is inline fuse wire, right side is straight wire to switch. Doesn't matter what sides you use by the way.

This is the switch, I'd recommend just a plain switch or some OEM subaru switch you could pop in. The light function doesn't work like you'd want it to. If I grounded the switch the light would come on when I pressed the brake (pointless).

i'm thinking of blowing a fuse then soldering wire onto it and to plug back in rather than spade/ring connectors. otherwise same idea i had. need to find that VDC switch though

. I thought about doing that, I couldn't get the cut rings in at first. I didn't want to make another trip and spend money on solder. I'm going to swap it with the GTC fuse connector.

But this also disables power steering...what else is there? I'm pretty certain this disables the same thing as before, but I could be wrong.

Not true. All you need for that is wheel spin and the switch we have in our car is actually a traction control switch, not a VDC switch like the manual states. All you'd need to do if stuck in mud or snow is press that switch and the car will allow wheel spin.

pulling the fuse under the hood kills power steering and limits engine rpm to 4000. Also when you put this fuse back in you need to disconnect the battery to reset the computer

According to the post that discovered this, this does not have any of those effects
