What is the widest tire I can run on a set of 17x9.5 +10.

You haven't told us what car you drive. You haven't filled out your profile.

Guessing by your post, this setup is way too aggressive for you. Stock to stock until you start to get a better understanding of wheel fitment.

You could do a 315/70-17 on a 17x9.5" wheel. The tire manufacturers actually spec an 8.5-10" wheel for that size, so 9.5" would work out great. Edit: Actually, looks like I was wrong. The widest tire would be a 40x13.5-17 - they'll also fit a 9.5" wheel, and they're about 3/4" wider than the 315/70-17s, so even better!

Looks like the Firestone Destination A/Ts or Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo2 would be your best bet, unless you're looking for something more hard core. In that case, I'd probably go with the Dick Cepek Crushers - just the name alone is worth it!
