Default Question for any owners with 2012 Plasma Blue Pearl or Obsidian Black Pearl colors

Not sure if this is the right forum to be asking - I'm about to pull the trigger on a 2012 STI and am having the darndest time deciding between the Plasma Blue Pearl and Obsidian Black Pearl. The dealer has one in black but none in the Blue Pearl. My 2002 WRX is Midnight Black Pearl, which consisted of blue speckles in the black paint (really sharp after polishing/waxing with the orbital). The color chips in the brochure show speckles in both colors, but the Obsidian Black car appeared straight black. Is the Plasma Blue Pearl dark navy blue or purplish?

Looks dark dark blue at night, in sunlight you can definitely see purplish hues.

OBP has blue metallic flake also. It looks plain black at night and when it's cloudy, but when it's clean and in direct sunlight you can see the flake in the paint. It's not as noticeable as in the 02-03 MBP, but it's there.

I've got a 2011 5dr in PBP. At night it looks like a dark navy blue (almost black). In bright light it almost looks like a dark purple.

Definitely a great looking color.

I just got a hatch in PBP, and I agree with the above. Also, there's a LOT more metallic/flake than I anticipated (and it looks like there are multiple flake colors up close). It's really a cool color.

Finally got out and took some decent pics of the car. It gives a good idea of the color in different light.

I absolutely love my pbp. It changes drastically in different lights. Here are a couple pics I took at like 12 in the afternoon. In my garage though it looks like a satin dark purple. Up close it looks very similar to my favorite nail polish and has just about the same amount of sparkle too

I prefer cherry blossom red on my toes. Brings out my eyes.

Thanks for the pics! I was concerned it would be too purple or blue in bright sunlight. I've had black cars since '01 and wanted to change things up this pass - Plasma Blue Pearl is the way to go.

I love my PBP now that I got all the dealer installed swirls out of the paint.. At night it looks like a dark blue, in the sun is when the paint really comes alive with all the flakes in the paint. It does have a purplish look as well.. here's some pics of mine right after an extensive detail..

LOL @ dealer installed swirls. I had to do the same thing. I washed, clayed, waxed and polished. I was able to remove most of them out by hand using HD UNO. I need to get a porter cable and give it a good machine polish.

Speaking of claybaring, I couldn't believe the amount of trash that was in the paint after only having the car for 4 months...
