Default 2012 Impreza 2.0i Gauges &Center LCD Readout

While I was playing around trying to figure out the stabilty control functionality for another thread I started, I noticed that as the car started up (while all the lights on the dash and the gauges cycle) the word "SPORT" is displayed in the upper left corner of the center LCD screen between the tach and speedo.

Do I have a "Sport" mode? I can't think of any reason why my car would have this light. It does not illuminate when in "M" mode while driving, or when I press the VSC off button. Tried holding down a paddle shifter (or both) for a couple seconds to see if there is some hidden feature, nothin'. There is no reference to it in the owners manual anywhere, read the whole book through the other day, and re-checked again last night. The only reasonable explanation I can come up with is its a feature not offered in the U.S. Anyone have a Canada spec. Impreza with this?

That probably comes from the fact that it uses the same cluster as the STI. Mine shows the Standard Sport Intelligent mode lights even thought the car doesn't have that functionality

I saw the exact same thing this morning, right above the gas gauge on the center readout. "Sport" flashes up and then disappears as soon as the car finishes starting up.

Image should be there now. Had to load it up on FB. Noticed the Forester that has the optional gauges has this, it is shown right on the Subaru website. Another thought that crossed my mind is: on the base models without the paddle shifters, but with the CVT, when you put it in "L", does this light up? Just curious. My dads Murano had a Sport mode, and all it did was keep the motor in the 3,000-6,000 RPM range instead of letting the CVT upshift. I understand that "L" should work the same way, although Subaru does not advertise this feature as sporty.

I found this on a Road and Track review
http://www.roadandtrack.com/tests/dr...subaru-impreza

When in sport mode, the transmission will hold the selected ratio, giving you the ability to run in higher rev ranges than would be allowed in full automatic mode.

Not sure how you turn it on.

The author must be referring to "M" mode as "Sport" mode. He didn't mention if the light was on. Jeeze, what was he thinking! Lol.

Can't you enable sport mode by moving the gearbox shifter to the right?

So when you move your shifter over the the "M" area the word "sport" is displayed on the center LCD screen?

I have the exact same gear box with paddle shifters but "sport" isn't displayed when I'm in manual mode.

Yeah I do from what I recall, I will take a picture of it later. But then again mine is a Canadian spec sport though.

Hmm..I just checked and realized the word sport never lights up except when you start your car and even then its quite brief.

^Almost....

yeah, pkl, thats what I'm gettin at bro, it cycles on when you start the car, but then goes off. This car is full of stuff that doesn't make sense electronic wise. Just like the stability control off button that doesn't actually turn the stability control off...

What does everyone think of the new speedometer? Personally, I dislike it. I don't see the need to have every 2.5 mph marked. Makes it confusing when only the even 10's are numbered and there are so many marks in between. I find myself looking down a lot and saying, Where is 35? or 55? I don't know about other states, but Illinois doesn't have speed limits posted as 37.5 mph!

There is also a DIESEL indicator on the LCD. Next time you catch a glare on your display, you may be able to see it.

Wow really? I haven't really paid much attention, I guess they used the same electronics for the car worldwide. I'll upload a picture of my dash/tachometer later.

There are many different indicators on the center display that are not applicable to the USDM Impreza. I am sure they reuse the display instead of making separate ones for each country.

Ive seen the Diesel light a couple times in direct sunlight. My guess for the Sport light is that its for the Forester. Anyone have a new Forester to confirm?
