Unfortunately, octane ratings are not the same in Europe (or Japan) as they are in the US. 99 octane gas in the UK is more like 94/95 in the US.

US uses average of RON and MON (R+M/2) [also known as AKI(Anti Knock Index)]
Europe and Japan use RON
RON is usually 8-10 points higher then MON

Normal gas here is 95, super is usually 98. They are equivalent to US 90/91 and 93/94. I use the normal 95 gas since that is what the gas coupons are for and I use a Cobb 91ACN map just to be sure.

By the way, 1.40 pounds/liter in the UK comes out to ~$8.40 gallon.

E85 is going up too though because corn prices. A plant here shut down because of it
