I was just thinking about putting a USDM ECU in my car for inspections so it could communicate with the state system. I'm worried about the TGV sensors or lack there of. Will they cause a check engine light? Any other problems that might appear from this? It would only be temporary. AVCS shouldn't cause any problems, right? It just wouldn't function.

Should run the motor just fine with the right map flashed to the 03-03 ecu. You will get TGV codes but they can be deleted with open source tuning software.

I'm curious to know this also, I have a 01 rs with a jdm v7 swap..and need to pass emissions and Cobb tuning isnt far away, and they told me they can't help me as far as my jdm ecu...but they could help me out if I ran a usdm wrx ecu.

As far as I know, with a JDM ECU, you are stuck with ECUTek or open source.
The 02/03 USDM WRX ECU is pin compatible with the V7 harness but you will not get AVCS with the USDM WRX ECU. |

But he can swap to a usdm ecu for the inspection. Just needs to get rid of the tgv code.

I'm pretty sure I have a NON tgv v7...so I don't think it will throw one of those codes

Ver. 7's don't have tgvs, but the usdm ecu will look for them hence the codes.

The issue that you will run into when trying to pass inspection even with a USDM ECU on a V7 is that the emission control circuits need to be added to the harness so that the readiness tests that are part of the emission inspection are present. I'm not sure that you can flash these out. As others have said the TGV functions can be turned off.

I borrowed an 03 USDM ecu, flashed it for my injectors, turned off all tgv related codes and forced readiness to pass NJ inspection. Its straight forward and should be very similar testing in NY state. Note, the rom has to match the ecu, you may get some weird fuel pump controller CELs if there is a mismatch. |
