"I have no idea, sorry"

"Your license plate is obstructed by snow. License and registration, please."

"Here is a $300 ticket. I'm giving you a failure to carry insurance in your car ticket, you can NOT show proof and have this nullified. I'm also giving you a registration ticket."

*cop leaves*

I got pulled over for having snow obstructing my license plate. Officer asked for my license and registration. Turns out my registration expired in October, my drivers license expired yesterday, and I had my moms Insurance card instead of mine. Boom, $300 ticket and I can't show my insurance to the courthouse, because its a failure to carry in car ticket.

On that note, anyone want to buy a 2003 silver WRX?

Show that you have insurance and fight the rest. Problem solved. Other than the problem of the car not starting. Did you figure out why?

I've never heard of a judge NOT tossing out a failure to carry insurance if you can show it was in effect. The guy was an asswipe picking on you for that.

Fight the hell out of that. I guarantee you won't have to pay no $300 if you go to court and politely explain what happened, that you in fact do have insurance, you were going to get your DL taken care of quickly, and the officer could have just asked you to wipe the snow off your licence plate.

First off, reschedule the court date. Officers usually schedule all their dates on one day, so if you just reschedule there is a huge likelihood he won't even show up, in which case the entire thing gets thrown out.

Definitely fight that! Especially the not having your insurance card part... When I bought wrx I didn't even call to get insurance on it yet and wrecked it.. needless to say, got a no insurance ticket....

But I called my insurance company (who covered my other vehicles) they said I was fine, I guess I had a 30 day grace period... So I got it insured and took that card in to the court and they dropped what would have been a 400 dollar ticket.

Be amazed what you can get dropped just by fighting it

Admittedly, you are guilty of driving w/ expired license and reg. So, worst case is you pay those. Regardless of the name on the card, you need to show insurance on the "car". So that should have been fine. Plus you "are" on the same policy as your parents (I would assume they and you are covered on the WRX), so the proof you showed him was current and valid.
All lack-of-proof insurance tickets can be nullified by showing proof at the courthouse, he cant prevent that. Because if you don't, you loose your license anyway. So you'll get out of that scott-free, and you certainly need to take care of that one. As far as fighting the other 2, and how much of the $300 they represent, is your call. (not saying anything one way or another)
And yes, cop was apparently sounds like he was having a bad night. I got 99% less hassle for doing 60 down the middle of Ucon (35)... Does pay to be older tho.

Meet is technically tomorrow, but we haven't discussed places to hold it yet. Ideas? Should we push it back a week?

Need to get my car serviced. Any suggestions where? I usually go to the Ford dealership, but I don't really want to trust them with this one haha.

Suggestions:
1. In general, avoid "taking" your car anywhere (around here) for service. You'll usually regret it. Dealership's are questionable at best, and competent shops are few n far between.
2. What do you need done? Most Subaru "scheduled service" stuff can be done on your own, and plenty competently without much hassle. I highly advocate everyone workin on their own car (we leaves me more time to do the same... ), it's good for you n better for the car. You're not under any type of warranty are you?
Subies are actually quite low maintainance, I find. Very little to break, even less that need regular service/replacement.

Just the usual oil I suppose. Not quite time for 60k. I just can't stand working on my car in the winter without a heated garage.

Currently no garage, or just no heat?
I have garage and propane heater(s), since I need to scrape together funds to install an NG one & plumb to to my house (sooo wish I knew someone in the hvac business that could do that cheap...). Otherwise I suffer throught the 20-30degree range in the cold months. Oh well, works gotta get done.

Just for an oil change, if I had. I work space, I'd just ask a friend to borrow a garage spot for an hour...

C&S Auto (near Hitt and Iona intersection) has always done good work for me, everything from rebuilding diffs for the FFR to all kinds of maintenance on our F150. Always good work. The owner is a genuine car guy, races a pretty badass S10 with a 350 (I think) stuffed in it.

Or I could go borrow my paw-in-law's 75,000 BTU heater. Intended for a large shop but it heats my garage up to about 60 in no time.

<-- lives in Poky. I'll probably just take it down to the Subaru store here in town and have them do it.

Also, I am looking for a 2008+ CBR 1000RR or an 09+ R1 (Crossplane goodness) for the summer if anyone has any pals looking to get rid of theirs. I'm not super serious right now, but come spring I will be.
