Post ??how do i defeat the sunroof safety stop?

HELP!!! i'm in the middle of installing an alarm and want to incorporate the window/sunroof closing option, but the sunroof needs to be 'pushed/triggered' twice to close, cause of some stupid relay or something somewhere, but i can't find it...

anyone know where/which one it is?

thanks

also, anyone know if there are wiring diags out for 01RS yet?

This is one thing that I sorta miss from the last car I drove. It was a 95 Mazda 626 sedan. A) The sun roof controls were just one press to open one to close (as opposed to our hold to half closed, stop then hold again until fully closed), and B) the sunroof would close automatically when you shut off the car (no alarm system or even remote entry on that car). They had a nifty little button that when on, would leave to the sunroof in it's current position. Little things like that and the oscialting (sp?) fans made that a great car to sit in. Not a bad performer either for what it was. I would love to know if anyone's done something like this on an RS. It would be a very welcome mod for me.

I'm not an electronics guy, but I know you could put your own relay in the alarm wiring that would close then open to shut the roof the rest of the way. On my GSX, the installer did something similar for the door locks to get around the turbo timer.

My Jeep has the same 2-stop thing. It opens to point A with one push, then another push opens it all the way. The reason for the stop is that when driving with windows up and sunroof wide open there is tremendous buffetting. Close it to the magic spot and it all but dissapears. Same goes for the two positions in my RS I've noticed.

If it were a safety stop I would think it would have the pause a lot closer to the front.

How to get around it? Don't know.

It's a contact switch or something in the sunroof motor assembly. How do I know? Because I'm an idiot and I thought it would be easier to get the headliner in (after the roll cage install) without the motor assembly in place, then put the motor in afterwards - don't ask. Anyway, I took it out and put it back in but the motor position moved and now my sunroof stops in a different place. It's kinda annoying but not enough to make me take it back out. Now it stops when the sunroof is halfway open instead of just after it pops up.

Old installer sense would tell to go directly to the sunroof motor and tap into it there. Have you tried looking at the switch assembly to see if there's more than one wire that opens and closes the sunroof? You might get lucky and find the open/close wire to the roof motor w/o dropping the headliner.
