DEARBORN, Michigan — The refreshed 2013 Ford Taurus SHO starts at $39,995, reflecting a $1,045 increase over the outgoing model, according to Ford.com. The price includes a $795 destination charge.
Ford announced on Wednesday that the 2013 Taurus SHO can be spiced up with a new performance package that includes 20-inch machined and painted wheels, a sport-tuned suspension and performance brake pads and track-tuned calipers. The package also bundles an enhanced extreme-duty cooling system, performance summer-compound tires and electronic stability control track mode with "true off."
The package adds $1,995 to the bottom line and is an increase of $1,000 over the outgoing performance package on the 2012 Taurus SHO.
The 2013 Taurus SHO carries over the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that delivers 365 horsepower. It is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
The 2013 Ford Taurus debuted last spring at the 2011 New York Auto Show.

This car has many flaws, such as the oddly not spacious interior, the stupid raised back seats, and bad visibility due to the super high beltline. All of these it pretty much inherited from the underwhelming Five Hundred.

BUT, I don't think the price itself for a car like this is that crazy. It does sit in an odd niche of a market, where the only other competition is various Chrysler products based on the 300. I cannot think of anyone else that makes sporty versions of non-premium FULL SIZE sedans. But considering the premium you pay for sporty versions of compact (like the WRX) or mid-size (like.. the Altima SE-R of the olden days?), and the equipment level that this car comes with, I think the pricing is somewhat reasonable.

They did. Remember the Ford Five Hundred? Probably not, which is why they brought back the name Taurus soon after the Five Hundred stumbled.
