Anyone running this oil on above, or similar for a period of time? Seems like a reasonable compromise between t6 5w40 and standard synthetic 5w30--m1 etc
Thanks

No, but gathermewool on IWSTI.com and bobistheoilguy is running it in his STI. Even though it's a 5W-30 that has a high HTHS, it has a low TBN and is not meant for extended drains. Ideally, the TBN on it will drop slowly but I haven't seen any data on it. I wouldn't run it past 3,750 miles without some data and Amsoil doesn't recommend it for your model year either. It's also a low SAPS oil so it will have low zinc and phosphorus levels like a typical 5W-30. It should stay in grade better than an Energy Conserving 5W-30 though.
For Amsoil, go with DEO 5W-40 or the 0W-40 Power Sports if you want a robust oil. No cats, go with HDD 5W-30. gathermewool's uoa's on SSO with some discussion on the AEL: http://www.iwsti.com/forums/2-5-lite...o-0w-30-a.html http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...2544119&page=1 -Dennis Last edited by bluesubie; 03-12-2012 at 05:56 PM. |

Thanks Dennis. I will follow your leads and look at the data. I am not sure why I am reluctant to run a 40 weight in my dd, but for some reason I am. However, I am not too inclined to run energy saving 30's either... My dp is indeed cat.
Maybe I need to photo shop a 30 label onto tha amsoil 40 and call it good. Regardless, I will be doing factory oci for awhile even though my tune and parts have made the warranty requirements moot. Best, Eric |

Your owner's manual tells you that you can run 10W-40 down to -4F. Also, look at the viscosity numbers on oil and pick an oil that's on the low end of the 40 grade viscosity range and it will typically shear to a 30 grade. When I emailed Mobil1 and asked for a recommendation for my conditions (short trips, Stage I, like to put my foot into it sometimes, etc.), they recommended their 0W-40. GC is also a very good proven choice.
If you look at the viscosity at 100C, you'll see that it's 13.5. Something like RT6 is thicker at 14.2. Amsoil Euro 5W-40 is 13.7. If you want to see actual viscosity at any temp, try a viscosity calculator. http://www.widman.biz/English/Calculators/Graph.html Here's a uoa on Amsoil 5W-40: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...Number=2359873 Browse the uoa and PCMO forums at bitog and look at the WRX recommendations. A lot of 5W-40 recommendations. And I like this email from Royal Purple about 0W-40 vs. 5W-40: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...Number=2390250 Quote:
