Default JDM into USDM

I have an '04 STi with a blown usdm engine and have found a jdm ej20 version 8 engine. Is this compatible with my car and are there any tuning issues, harness issues or other issues to worry about? Thanks for the help!

Oh and the engine is '04 as well if that helps. I've been told
It will spool slower but it shouldn't be a big issue
Other than that. Is this true? I appreciate anyone's input!

I think you could do it if it comes with the wiring harness also. I dont think your wiring harness is compatible. The throttle body on the sti is dbw and on the wrx its dbc, I dunno if the jdm sti has dbw or dbc.

Your gonna have to search that up.

I applaud you for your thinking, but it's likely that the work will be a lot more trouble than what you're welling to get yourself into.

What exactly is blown in the USDM engine? If you can get the engine removed and installed on your own, you can often get the engine rebuilt with forged internals for a decent price.

Well before I took it out it came up with two error codes for the cams and the number 4 injector is toast i've been told by my mechanic. The engine is out and apart ($1300 because I have no time to do it all myself) and the pistons and bearings were pretty much toast on it as well (surprise surprise...) what trouble would I run into? I have it all set up for stage two so the decision is to rebuild it to handle the 400hp/23psi its set up for or find a stock longblock and go back to stock and sell the curse of a thing...

You have a lot of wiring ahead of you, if you ever plan to go from a 32 bit ECU EJ257 to a 16 bit ECU EJ207. You pretty much have to rewire your entire car to make this work. This is not a cheap solution and from what I have read in this thread it's not something you want to dabble in.

Find a used EJ257 or a new Short Block. Also might be a good idea to find out what parts are bad. Saying you have CEL codes for Cams doesn't say much at this point. If your Heads are still good, you can maybe get away with a new Short block, clean the heads and have a fully working STI again.

If u want that motor you have to do some work, google iWire for the wiring services, your mechanic will pull your harness and send iWire your sti harness and the purchased jdm engine harness and jdm ecu for a marriage; have mechanic install v8 motor and do all that jaz, install modded harness and go. I think this is correct, feel free to comment as I don't remember, but i think it's that simple;
if you call that simple.
