Default P0448 - Emissions time

Hey everyone, working on a 2003 WRX with ECUTEK flash.

Car has been sitting for the last couple months as I live in Jersey, and the car is in AZ. I came home yesterday to register and emissions test it, but after replacing the battery and alternator, it is throwing a code.

I went through the drive cycles after replacing the battery, and the P0448 code showed up twice. No other codes to accompany it. I did some research and was told it has to do with a short in the solenoid.

I disconnected the solenoid from the harness, then reconnected it, then ran the D-cycle, where all switches and solenoids are tested. Held a long screwdriver to the solenoid, and put my ear to it. I heard a "ping" sound every second or so. I don't know if its stuck, or if thats the sound of it fully actuating.

Assuming the solenoid is good because it is making that sound. What is my next course of action to try to check this thing out or make headway on getting the code removed?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Do you want to fix it or just pass the test?

Priority goes to passing the test.

If I should fix it to prevent problems down the road, I'll fix it.

But I just want to pass emissions right now.

jack up car, remove passenger rear wheel
remove plastic cover over fuel filler neck (should be a couple 10mm bolts)
inspect for rust and damage.

I replaced about 15 fuel filler necks on Subaru's this winter that failed EVAP during testing.

Luckily for you the 03 WRX ECU has basically been completely reverse engineered. Find someone who has an open source cable. Disable that code and also check the box to force readiness. What this means is even if you unplug the battery the car will instantly show as all monitors ready

What black94snake said is one of the more likely causes for the leak.

I thought this would be the solution also, but unfortunately the ECUTEK tune locks Open source out right? Last time I had someone with Open source try to do anything to my ECU, they told me they were locked out and couldn't touch it.

Could the ECUTEK tuner take care of this as well? I went back to them and they told me that I had to replace the solenoid, and there was nothing they could do.

I'm not sure, I had my car tuned for the last three years. Its been really parked and run once a week to spark it up for the last year. I want to bring it out to the east coast now, so I have to register it. I've been out of the tuner world for some time now, so I don't know the best tuning options I have.

Can the tuner flash my ECU back to stock, and then would I be able to get an Open Source tuner to tune and remove the code? Sounds plausible.
