2011 WRX
stage 1 sf 91 ots
cobb intake plus box
spt cat back

dumped factory fill at 2000 miles.
followed aggressive break in process

4000 miles now.

well just changed oil with m1 extended performance 5w30 with oem filter. wrx consumed 1.4 qts of m1 in 2200 miles. following the majority with the shell rotella t6 5w40 to hopefully end my consumption issue. unloaded my m1 stock and replaced it with a bunch of t6. always use oem filters and going to drop the m1 in it currently within the next couple of weekends. bummer really about these engines hating this oil, been using it for years and was loyal to the brand but guess its over. ill follow up when i do the change and see how the oil performs.

(please no rage debates over oil selection, factory fill change interval, break in process, I.Q., etc. just sharing my experience with my car.)

Consumption is normal, especially on a new engine. You can also have consumption when switching brands because of the different oil chemistries. If you've been happy running Mobil1, the brand is fine as long as you run the proper viscosity for your application. M1 0W-40 and TDT 5W-40 are very good oils. People here tend to compare M1 5W-30 to RT6 5W-40 which makes no sense. Of course, RT6 is good oil as well.

yeah ive planned on having more consumption before the t6 is established in the motor. i did see the m1 5w40 and read the info on the jug, but decided against it. im very curious to see how the t6 works out. ive seen all the comparison threads of the two (m1 5w30 vs the t6) and was leary about making a post in fear it would explode, which i really hope that it does not. ill be more patient with my car since its still low miles and the consumption is still normal, but just bummed out that it is consuming so much. on a side note ive read alot of you guys threads on here and appreciate your knowledge and time you take to post on these forums.

I've been using G.C. 0w30 for the extra. Kind of a P.I.A. as I get the T-6 at Wally-World and the G.C. at AutoZone. RP

Don't post much but been trolling for years. I just flipped 45k on the car which is an 08 STi. I did 1200 on the factory oil. Then 1200 on Penzoil conventional yellow 5w30 with no filter change. Then I changed it about every 3-4 k with Mobil 0w40. Top rated "cheap" oil that is easily obtainable per the guys at bobistheoilguy.com. Last fill I just did RT6. So I have done about 12-13 oil changes and burned about 3 quarts total (probably less). About 15 auto crosses on top of it. 0w40 is "God's"oil. 0w40 is the only Type IV that you can get from Mobil. Mobil ratings are on the high side so I would never consider 0w20/30 from them. I don't have UOA's but the engine is as smooth as the day I took her home. Probably better.

If you have oil or any type of engine liquid questions, try www.bobistheoilguy.com
Those guys are nuts on fluids.

What about taking a quart of the Mobil 1 0w50 racing oil and adding that to 3 1/2 quarts of the T-6 5w40?

update: currently have 600 miles on the T6. zero oil usage as of now. my driving habits have not changed and have followed the same driving routes as usual. with 600 miles on this oil I would be on pace to consume around 1/2 of a quart of 5w30. the T6 is working out great so far and will be updating as my miles on the oil increase. on a side note, I will be going stage 2 very soon. cobb catted dp and spt boost gauge has arrived. stage 1 has become very dull feeling.

update: 8,000 miles on car, two T6 changes, zero consumption or oil loss between changes. awesome oil and an awesome decision.
