Default Ford Focus RS put on hold

Quote:
In a recent interview, Ford's vehicle line director for the global C-segment platform revealed the company has delayed development of the next-generation Focus RS.
Speaking with Car Advice, Gunnar Herrmann said the model has been put on the back burner to concentrate on the various other vehicles and variants - like the Escape/Kuga and Focus Electric - that also ride on the Focus platform. As Herrmann noted, "It's just because we have other priorities to clean up and, effectively, we have to make a final decision on how we proceed [with the new RS]."
As we have previously reported, the model is expected to feature a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine with at least 320 hp (238 kW / 324 PS). It will send power to the front wheels through a limited slip differential and a Revoknuckle front suspension which promises to minimize torque steer.

Ford fans have been asking for this for over a decade, yet Ford keeps insisting FWD is fine (when its really their financial bottom line dictating this) and ppl still buy in the RS in foreign markets anyway despite the complaints, thus reinforcing their behavoir. You really think things will change the next time around?

As long as it is lightweight and has a true AWD system, not one with a bunch of open diffs & viscous center diff...

lol i feel a hint of sarcasm towards a certain car manifactor with stars as emblem ... would still take a bunch of open diffs and a viscous center diff at 300+hp vs fwd..

OK. I wouldn't. I've always said I'd rather have a well sorted front driver than a half assed Awd. I loved my Sti so much I cried when I had to get rid of her. The Sti Awd is the bare minimum I want for an awd performance car. Problem is that it's heavy an unnecessary 95% of the time.

Now if I had unlimited funds, gas prices were no issue and I continue to live in the majestic Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, I'd rock an AWD turbo car again. But since gas will get worse, my funds are limited and I know how to drive without an awd crutch, I'll stick to my well sorted fwd hatch.

Why not? Would you rather have haldex .

Please provide evidence that a Focus RS FWD would handle better than a AWD subaru because I actually know this is not the case.

The last Focus RS was heavier than a WRX.

I was thinking "I smell a GTI owner" and then saw mini, lulz

Well at least "delayed" doesn't mean "Never going to be made." I'm sure Ford knows what they are doing. Ken Block will be unamused .

247hp is Significantly more power than any USDM factory Focus has seen, I wouldn't go around poopoo'ing it until you've actually oh I don't know....Driven It.

I would poop on a focus ST. I have no interest in that car and it will be probably priced with a MS3 but also have less interior goodies which I would rather buy the Mazda.

I always wanted a first-gen focus rs. I had a first gen Focus and I loved that thing but I sure wished it was the rs. With all the miles of crappy back roads in America, why are we always denied the rs?

Ford's SVT boss has left to take over VW Motorsport. As far I know Jost Capito led the development of the last Focus RS and was put in charge of the European performance line and SVT in the US. The Focus ST has been taking forever to come out and with all the specialist Mustang makers out there I wonder he was having trouble at Ford. It's also just as possible that VW parked a truck of money on his door as they look like they're going to make a serious push in the WRC.

Here's one from Bedford Autodrome. EVO's test track facility. Not sure who was doing the driving. Anyone with a latest EVO could check the back. All mine are at home.
