Default 2012 Tanacross!!

** mods please sticky this thread **

May 26-27, 2012 Spring Tanacross!

Ladies and gentlemen it’s that time of the year again! Get those tents out of storage, clean up the cooler and bring out your helmet, its Tanacross time!!! Brought to you buy the Anchorage Alaska Sports Car Lions Club (AASCLC)….phew that’s a long name.
A brief background for those that don’t know:
  • Tanacross Alaska is approximately 330 miles Northeast of Anchorage, just outside of Tok (It is a long way, but the weather in spring is AMAZING!!!)
  • Tanacross Airfield is a tanker base just outside of Tok Alaska, it is used by the Dept of Natural Resources/Forestry as a re-fueling base to fight wild fires
  • Tanacross is also home to the best (and only) road racing action in Alaska! Everything from 400+hp GTX cars down to the 120hp IT cars and lots of time trial action for folks with hot street cars. Usually, there’s a silly fella that likes to wear out tires at an alarming rate, goes by the name of Todd. There’s something for everyone!
  • Saturday evening there is a potluck. Bring something to share with the group, including some sort of crazy story from the day!
  • Fred’s beans….if you don’t know, well you just don’t know till you go!

If you’re looking for a cheap and easy way to go really fast in a legal environment, we’ve got it. If you have a recent Snell M or SA 2000 helmet, some shoes, a long sleeve shirt and long pants you can join in on the fun (Time Trial only--Wheel to Wheel safety equipment must meet a higher standard.) Also, keep an eye out in this thread for information on the event supplemental rules. Convertible vehicles with factory or approved aftermarket roll protection will be allowed to enter Time Trials at this event. All Time Trial vehicles will need to pass a standard Auto-X tech inspection. Please ask the club if you have questions about your vehicle or your personal safety equipment (info@aksportscarclub.org).

Racing Fee:
$225.00 Wheel to Wheel
$35.00 Competition License
$60.00! Autocross (includes Competition License Fee!!!)

Note for W2W drivers:
Look for a tech inspection in the near future. You will NOT need a Head and Neck restraint at this time. The supplemental rules have not been released, but I can just about guarantee that there will be no requirement for a HANS device at this point.

More information: http://aksportscarclub.org/tanacross/index.html
Online Registration will be announced when it is open.

I'll be prepping for finals.

Had a good time just hanging with the crews around the fire last year.

Gonna consider the other event, if it goes off.

That is so cool Ken. Visiting the roots, eh? What are you going to drive?

Let me know if you need a place to hang your hat when you are through town?

Is Spencer coming with you?

Thanks for the offer Mike, I think my sister has a room saved for us.
I still have my truck for the trip to tanacross, and I've got my land rover to work on while I'm there. No racecar for me, though the mustang is supposed to be @ tanacross.
Spencer has gone to stay with his biological mom for a while, Cara and I are kid-less for a while! Weeee.....

Woot!! I got me a camper now. Well, should have one come this weekend. It's only a slide-in but, hey its not tenting it.

Gotta get the car over to Todd's or P3 and investigate a small leak, as well as swap rubbers and I should be good to go.

What exactly is wheel to wheel? I tried my skills at GoogleFu and no info I could find. The link to the site give a "404 error"

Looking at heading up there, all depends if my front tires for the car are in by then and I have my truck back from the shop as well.

If I do go, more than likely I will have an empty shotgun spot in the car and truck if anyway wants to come along, just chip in a bit for fuel is all I'd ask.

Wish that I could go up. Sounds like a great crew is headed up this year.

It is pretty much wheel to wheel and door to door racing Nate. The cars that do that type of racing up there have cages, safety harnesses, window nets, fire extinguishers, and fuel cells. You would be doing a timed lap on a big course much like auto cross but with speeds approaching or over 100mph.

BTW, I think it is really awesome that MrzOOm is "all in" on this AK racing scene thing now.

Have been racing off an on for about 15 years, just never did autocross before Odd though I never saw many Subarus out at the drag strip over the last couple years. No 1/4 mile racing??

Either I load up the Jeep and head out camping or I load up the truck and car and head out to Tok, either way I'm not sticking around the house!

If you like racing you owe it to yourself to check out TanaX. It's the fastest racing event in Alaska and only happens 2x a year. This will be my 8th year and I'm flying back from hawaii to go. Most people camp on 'pit lane' and there are bonfires and much fun to be had after hours. Search youtube for tanacross and you'll get an idea. If you want to get into 3rd or 4th gear autocrossing it is the ONLY place in Alaska to do it. Last year there was a CTS-V that (I believe) hit 135 on course and 160 off course.

Are you talking to me or mike?

If me, then who are you? And I won't be bringing anything, but I might get some wheel time anyways... I know people.

I should have room to haul tires or whatever if anyone needs stuff brought up. I'm leaving early on Thursday the 24th. Donations are welcome

Ken, are you still planning on hauling nicks trailer up?
