Question Looking for other Insurance

This has been discussed on the other forums a while ago (last discussion I remember seeing was about a year ago), but I want to keep this sane.

I think I may be paying too much for Insurance, so I'll be shopping around and want to know what everyone is using.

Someone mentioned on the RMSolo mailing list that State Farm doesn't really care about Solo 2 events, so I'll give them a call, but what about the others out there?

Will, if you've been reading the RMSolo list there has been a discussion (started yesterday) on insurance companies and "competetive events."

Will, Ro:

I have State Farm. I talked with my agent about Solo II'ing and damage. His response was that they would most likely pay a claim for damage that happened during an event. However, any additional claims would probably get you dropped.

Incidentally, SF isn't the cheapest insurance around, but can be reasonable if you have your homeowner's insurance with them as well. However, I've found SF to be the easiest people I've personally dealt with on claims. Here's my experience:

Safeco - insured an idiot who backed into my two-week old Rex in a parking lot. Safeco was a hassle to deal with, and screwed me on rental car rates while my wagon was in the shop.

Allstate - insured an idiot who didn't stop for traffic and rearended a line of stopped cars at ~35 MPH. The car behind us as well as my wife's Saturn were both totalled. I had to do a bunch of legwork that the Allstate adjuster should have done to get the claim paid off. Totalled the Saturn.

State Farm: Insured my '84 BMW as well as my WRX. The parked BMW was totalled in a hit-and-run while I was out of town. Three days later, SF paid the claim and cut me a check. No hassles.

If you have any military history and a clean driving record than USAA has good rates in Colorado. If no military than it can be up in the air as far as rates go. State Farm is a reputable company and normally has good rates as long as you have and maintain good driving record. American Family, Farmers, and Progressive sometimes have good rates too, depending on your situation. Don't go with some cut-rate company though because it will cost you in the end.
