Post Raced a Viper today...

Dead nuts even.

...til the light turned green.

I let him go, I didn't want to waste my gas on him.

Is a Viper really all that fast? I've driven in one once and it felt really torquey but the guy just got it [won it in some contest] and was going easy on it for the first 5000 miles. Then he crashed it, fixed it, crashed it again, and got rid of it. Can a souped up iTurbo come near it? I don't even know what kind of 0-60's it would post, I assume its sub 5, but still in the high 4's... What does the best iTurbo's on the iClub do 0-60 or 1/4 mile in?

A stock viper does the 1/4 in 12.5 - as long as it's dry out.

Comparing a Viper to a Impreza Turbo? I think in 0-60 times the Impreza might get the advantage becos of its low weight and AWD, but in the 1/4 there's no replacement for displacement, the Viper would eat it.

Yeah, 12.5 is damn fast, I didn't realize it was that quick. I've heard of 2.2l turbos going into the mid 13's, but to shave that next second would be very expensive I'd guess.

Oh well, guess I have to take vipers off my "must beat" list hehe. Unless of couse I get one of those great 12V electromagnetic force guns to blow the other guys electric system. Hmmmmm... Maybe g-tech would be interested in making one, imagine the ads "Instead of lowering your 1/4 mile time, why not raise your opponents?"

On the road courses you can always beat a Viper jsut by waiting until he runs himself out of brakes.

They all do it, whether its stock , or a Henessy tuned car, they ALWAYS boil the brakes and then you go by them.

Two years ago at Blackhawk we had a guy in a supercharged NSX and a Henessy tuned Viper, that was a nice battle, but the NSX had brakes all day long (six-pot Brembos and 13.5" modular rotors) The Viper did not heheheheh

Yeah, those Vipers are quite heavy, anyone got a spec on that? The brakes would have to be supergood in order to slow down that car all day long. It was funny, watching the MotorTrend TV show, the 22B was slower in the 1/4, and 0-60 times compared to the 2.5RX? I think thats the other model they tested. But when they went to the track, nothing would touch the 22B, so I guess there might be a replacement for displacement, in the turns anyway

I saw the 22b Autoweek and I think if you listen to the fine print, they mentioned that the clutch was sliping a bit on the 22b and that was most likely the reason for the slower performance specs.

Someone made mention of this and I think the 22b had previously been tested quicker than SCC's RX.

Im not picky, I'd take either one

"The 22B hit 60 in only 5.5 seconds, and finished the quarter mile in 13.7 seconds at 102 miles per hour. And that's with a failing clutch, and us getting used to the right-hand driving position." - Motorweek

What is really funny about the clip is that you can extremely easily notice the some kind of hopping under the car in the middle... maybe the trans/driveline flexing as the clutch is slipping?

Haha, yeah the failing clutch, they were talking about that while the guy was rippin' through the turns...Whats this 2.5RX car? Just a RS that someone has spruced up?

I thought it was a limited-run car with a turbo EJ20 in it instead of the EJ25? Hmmmm... that DOES sound far-fetched when it comes to the way Subaru treats its' consumers.

I followed the RX articles for a while, but without too much interest since it was all custom work that would cost a pile of cash. It was the latest round of articles about Shiv's Impreza (and the new Sentra, which wasn't quite what I was looking for, and the fact I saw a bunch of Turbos in the UK earlier this year)that finally got me off the fence and into a dealer.

I really wish they had tested a few more suspensions, though. The end of the first article said they would explore suspension in the next article, and when it came all they did was put on the LEDAs and that was that.

Well they're capable of 11.9s at least with a half-way decent driver.

Exactly. I was at GLD in 1997 and saw a brand spanking new blue and white GTS pull consistent 12.1s-12.2s. The guy didn't even have his permanent plates yet and was doing runs with his GF in the car.

Wowsers. Dodge Vipers have single-handedly maintained (and restored?) my faith in American muscle in recent years.

Yeah, probably BFR.

But he won't answer to that since Tarmac RS hasn't been on NASIOC since April of 2002.
